Feminists complain about women "oppressed" in islam by not being able to wear a short skirt, but have you seen an islamic man wearing a short skirt? What do you think will happen to him? Google muslim men images and will there be even one of them who is dressed more lightly than women?

As a man, I feel like it's self-respect for me to cover my own body and I don't see why women who do that wouldn't feel the same, but somehow involuntarily stripping them is "empowering".

There are also small "cults" of Jewish women who chose to cover their body like Muslims and whose husbands are blamed for oppressing them, but the thing is said husbands may not even know what their wives are into because they spend all days studying in kollels

muslim men are governed by the same modesty law that apply to women

that mean covering up lower arms and legs( and in some places like the taliban it means covering up the face).

but its also the same feminists who complain that Islam treats women better than western women because they are given special privileges in marriage etc..

the majority of the world female muslims do not cover up in the way that feminism complains is oppressive. yet when this happens in a western state, then where are the feminists to protest? all we get is either crickets or a statement about womens right to wear what they want. its only oppressive when feminists say it is( and of course when ever its aids their demand for money in the guise of funding)

regardless , Islam has many problems and feminism either enables or contributes nothing to the issue. which is why every time i hear a feminist( or a feminist in this subreddit engaging in whataboutism) complain about sexist air conditioning i can only think 1st world issues.

The taliban do not make men cover their face, only women.

[–]rahsoft 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (16 children) | Copy Link

go back and read what i said.. Properly

but then again , you are more at home at FDS so that explains your comment

[+]baddingtonbearr -1 points0 points1 point 4 years ago (14 children) | Copy Link

“muslim men are governed by the same modesty law”

no they’re not.

[–]rahsoft 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (13 children) | Copy Link

oh yes they are

because I've lived in several Islamic states where the modesty law( sharia) is applied( especially the gulf)

maybe if you got out of the country a bit more and actually lived in these places you would be able to think better

[+]baddingtonbearr -1 points0 points1 point 4 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

i think you greatly overestimate your own knowledge of muslim culture

[–]rahsoft 6 points7 points8 points 4 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

errmm no

given that ...

a) i am a muslim

b) my wife is a sharia lawyer and international lawyer

c) I lived in several Islamic states

where did you learn your knowledge of muslim culture( because there is no such thing, there is only local culture which may have a shared religion). Linda Sarsour???

I know you have greatly overestimated how much BS you can get away with

[+]baddingtonbearr 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

I study International Politics of the Middle East x

[–]rahsoft 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

at what university?

because so far with what you have spouted you either

haven't been listening

or you need to get a refund for your course

i prefer to refer to scholars for islam, sharia law, and law degrees( which is why i ask my wife - who is competent in all three, in western law, sharia law and international law).

im going to leave you to carry on spouting, because you have made a very poor argument for sharia law in the west( like a typical student who hasn't studied properly or finished), and who has a history of poor arguments designed for baiting( no wonder you get downvoted so much.

you would have had more luck sticking to gender studies and FDS...

[–]baddingtonbearr-1 point 4 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

lmao why on earth would i tell a random stranger online what university i study at?

[–]rahsoft3 points 4 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

lmao why on earth would i tell a random stranger online what university i study at?

because you are afraid thats its a crap university, given what you have so far spouted.

[–]baddingtonbearr0 points 4 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

it’s a russel group, if it makes you feel any better x

and i declined a cambridge offer

[+]baddingtonbearr -1 points0 points1 point 4 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

England and Wales, some US states, Germany and Greece.

All have sharia courts.

[–]rahsoft 4 points5 points6 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

the UK does not have sharia law

they have attempts at sharia courts( including scotland) which are not recognised.

even jews have beth din - but it does not make it law. Im familiar with Uk laws and know that religious laws are not recognised

Germany and Greece do not sharia law either

claiming a religious court does NOT make it legitimate

go look at the wiki page i linked to

just because you study international politics of middle east doesnt make you knowledgable of"Muslim culture" or sharia law

[+]baddingtonbearr 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

i can’t see your link? could you send it again? also do you have anything more reliable than a wikipedia source? anything academic from google scholar is preferable

[–]rahsoft 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

google sharia law in wikipedia under world application

as crap as wiki is - its not when it comes to something as simple as world wide application of sharia law. you could of course google it or go to your univesity library and look it up

you will also find it banned in some places in the americas

as for your university- i doubt its a credible place unless you want to claim its SOAS, which again would mean either you havent been paying attention or it has seriously gone down hill

you could also try and find a local mosque who will be more than happy to point out whether sharia law applies in your location ( heres the spoiler... if it in the west it aint)

[+]baddingtonbearr -2 points-1 points0 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

we also have sharia law in the west… you know that right?

[–]rahsoft 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

errm nope

please name the western country that has sharia law as its legal system

and that would have been somewhere in western europe, or the americas

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Application_of_Sharia_by_country

[+]stacyxxluv 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

You are getting downvoted for stating facts lol. Islamic culture is very controlling towards women. Some Islamic states straight up create laws to control women.

[+]baddingtonbearr 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

right, they just can’t admit they’re wrong

[–]HappyHippy11 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Actually I’ve traveled to a couple Muslim countries and guys do wear shorts or whatever they want. Girls want that freedom as well, that’s all. Especially considering how hot it gets in most Muslim countries.

[–]Ender01o 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

oh

[–]McFeely_Smackup 4 points5 points6 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

what about women in Islamic countries?

"someone else who lives on the other side of the planet has it rough" is not an argument with any relevance outside of that location.

[–]Flashy_Glove6208 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Leave other moral, religious and social standards alone. They have worked for hundreds of years for these societies.

The West/ feminism hasn't got a license for moral superiority over the rest of the World.

Feminism is destructive to societies. Sinking marriage, fertility rates and broken single mother homes prove the point.

Feminism tears the fabric of societies and antagonizes genders against each other. Men adapt and check out, just focus on themselves. Good for men, for societies it's a downhill slide.

[–]happyness423 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Wow! How to make a feminist’s head explode.

[–]atavila 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

this article's claims -- "men have an interest in their monogamously-partnered women not being able to meet other men" + "women have an interest in having at least one man to protect them from other men" = "women will agree to the values of their male partner including fucking up their freedom and health in order to have their man stay with them"

there's a line in second-wave feminist thinking that's like "women see that liberals want them to be public property (e.g. prostitution) and conservatives want them to be private property (e.g. marriage) and some women decide that being owned by one man is better than being owned by many"

There's some commonality there. But in the practices looked at (foot binding, FGM, niqabis), who ends up with broken feet and chronic pain and limited mobility -- who ends up with limited social connections because her face is covered so nobody can recognize her -- who ends up with near-total loss of sexual pleasure and incontinence? Cuz like. it's not the males. Per the rhetoric of the article, it seems like males' "enemies" are being tagged as other, "higher-status" males.

Another pile of drivel from "avoiceformen.com"

[–]GivePuppiesBazookas[🍰] 7 points8 points9 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Solid rebuttal.... If you're going to call something out, might wanna actually back up your stance. You just look like a troll without even attempting to defend your claim... but that's what most of you do. Come here, insult something, then leave and probably go back to your circle pretending you "showed them!!!"
