Crosspost "I wish prolifers could be like my mom" from /r/offmychest:

my mom is anti-abortion, but i wish more pro-lifers were like her.

morally, she disagrees with abortion. she’s made that very clear for a long time. her reasoning is one of her very close friends tried for several years to get pregnant and couldn’t, and my mom was there for her through it. my mom said it was awful to watch and she doesn’t want anyone else to go through that.

so, my mom is anti-abortion.

but, my mom is also pro-birth control. she’s pro-sex education. she’s pro-universal healthcare. she’s pro-maternity leave. she’s pro-everything that is proven to actually reduce abortions. and finally, she’s pro-mind your own damn business.

my mom believes that just because she thinks a decision is right for her, it doesn’t mean it’s right for everyone else. she always says that she will advocate for the very real and scary physical and mental effects of abortion and getting free, professional, unjudging help to all women before, during and after their journey because they had to make an unthinkable, horrible decision. but they made it, so it’s valid and deserves to be supported.

she believes telling someone that they cannot get a medically proven, safe, effective solution that has worked for many, many women just because “i don’t agree” is completely wrong. just because she thinks something doesn’t make it right or wrong. and certainly, just because a random, thousand year old piece of paper says one thing, absolutely does not discredit it’s validity for everyone.

tldr; to put it plainly, my mom is anti-abortion and pro-choice. to all prolifers: be like my mom.
