First a bit of housekeeping-I made 2 posts about this before because at the time it was relevant. Search my username then male domestic abuse. It's not intentional to have them broken up like this and I'll explain anyway so makes sense without those 2 but just FYI. I'll use MDV=male domestic violence.

So, here it is. Basically I'm from the UK. Things are bad here. Very bad. I emailed the major political parties concerning MDV and 6 separate figures-the London mayor, london mp where i was living, 2 kent mps, southampton mp and leicester mp. You are only allowed to contact and get an answer from an mp if they are in your constituency. I genuinely living in kent and london so those 2 ticked. Other 2 I faked it using addresses of family. Won't somebody think of the children!

Labour (left wing major party) ignored me. LibDem (centrists) replied but badly and did nothing. Didn't bother with conservatives (right wing in govt now).

Anyway onto MPs. 1 kent was tory one was labour, southampton ones was tory, leicester and london (both mp and mayor) were labour. Both London figures ignored me completely-tbf London is a ridiculously misandrist city-ads that are just so anti men and graffiti on walls are massively predominantly women just saying. Both are Muslim too just as an aside-no comment just pretty unique. All women bar Leicester.

Kent tory one I told you before (see previous post). Kent labour was a bad reply I didn't bother saving it-she is a TERF so no wonder. Southampton said this

I do regard it as critical to understand what the demand for DA refuges is, by gender, before assuming that there will be a proportionate split in those seeking shelter.  As you will know, not every domestic abuse victim either needs or wants a place in a refuge, and I am not sure that these statistics break down that demand.  I think what we all know is there is a significant shortage of places in refuge, despite the significant uplift in funding to them as a result of the pandemic.

You are absolutely right to point out that male victims of domestic abuse are more reluctant to report, and that may mask statistics. However, these services are commissioned locally and you might like to take this up with SCC.

London no answer. Onto Leicester. The only male left wing figure then aside Sadiq Khan (london mayor). Jon Ashworth.

And this happened. His lacky said would you like jon to contact govt? I said yes. Jon contacted the Home secretary. And I got a pdf letter from the home office:

Dear Jonathan,

Thank you for your letter of 22 June to the Home Secretary on behalf of (redacted obvs lol) about male victims and survivors of domestic abuse. I am replying as the newly appointed Minister for Safeguarding.

The Government is committed to tackling domestic abuse and supporting all victims of this heinous crime. Domestic abuse has absolutely no place in our society, and the Government is working closely with the police and other key partners to drive down its prevalence.

We have recently published the Tackling Domestic Abuse Plan. It invests over £230million, including £140 million for supporting victims, of which £47 million will be ringfenced over three years for community-based services to support victims and survivors of domestic abuse and sexual violence. The plan sets out measures which aim to support victims and survivors of these abhorrent crimes, including men and boys.

Mr (redacted) highlights some of the specific challenges male victims and survivors of these crimes can face. The Government recognises these challenges. That is why we published the ‘Supporting Male Victims’ document on 30 March this year.

‘Supporting Male Victims’ is an informational resource to address the specific challenges male victims face and contains a number of commitments to address these. The document contains further emphasis on the importance of specialist services, information on the myths and stereotypes that can act as a barrier to reporting for male victims and new case studies to provide examples of best practice.

In terms of practical support, for 2019-2022 the Government allocated funding to the Men’s Advice line. This is a national helpline for male victims of domestic abuse, run by the charity Respect. The service offers advice and emotional support to male victims of domestic abuse, and signposts other vital services that help keep them, and their children, safe. The Government provided additional uplifts in funding to the advice line in 2020/2021 and 2021/22.

The Government is committed to ensuring that all victims of domestic abuse receive the support they need, when and where they need it. This is why the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities (DLUHC) introduced a new legal duty within the Domestic Abuse Act on local authorities to provide support for victims of domestic abuse and their children within safe accommodation including refuges, backed by £125 million of Government funding to ensure that these vital services are available to anyone who needs them, wherever they live.

So in closing. It was the male left wing individual who actually did something. Not surprised. The contents of the letter...idk. Good bad? I leave that to you guys to tell me. But I got a reply from the Uk govt on MDV.
