A post in TwoX is making the rounds about a recent episode of House of the dragons, and for some reason, Game of Thrones is lumped in.

The topic is a particularly gruesome birthing scene, which I don't particularly mind people having a problem with, but there are comments throughout the thread talking about how Game of Thrones shouldn't have portrayed violence against women. Just woman, of course, if it was just violence against men it seems they would have been fine with it.

Obviously, this is a disturbing and strange double standard in itself, but I thought Game of Thrones was one of the best pieces of media I've seen in how it portrayed women. They were written like they were real people, just like the men. They had character and depth and their own story lines. Some of them were fighters, but others were badasses in other ways too, which isn't something you see as often.

Lady olenna, for instance, was a baller. I don't think she physically struck anyone, but she was a badass of an incredibly strong female character. Arya was a fighter, and had one of the most in-depth story lines there was in the show.

Overall I think Game of Thrones did a really good job writing male and female characters, so it's odd that it would get called out for this. And if you don't want Mary Sue characters, bad things have to happen to women just like they do to men, or you end up with characters that are just as bland and unrealistic.

And yes, point out if I miss something here, but it's also odd that violence against women shouldn't be a thing in media, but anything goes when it comes to violence against men.
