A few interesting snippets from the article:

Three-quarters of events (76.3%) involved a female victim while 23.6% involved a male victim.

Note that this is incidents attended by police. The data is likely biased due to disparities in reporting between male and female victims, and also possibly in how details were recorded by officers.

The pattern of injuries sustained by victims in domestic violence events differed between males and females. Cuts and bleeding were more commonly observed in male victims than female victims. Bruising was more commonly recorded for female victims that male victims.

I wonder if this implies a higher rate of weapon use by female abusers? Or perhaps women just bruise more easily.

EDIT: I've received a question on this last point. I understand it to be an accepted medical fact that women are more prone to bruising due to differences in tissue structure between the sexes. Source.

Abuse types differed between male and female victims with women more likely than men to experience hands-on abuse such as grabbing and pushing. Male victims were more likely to be subjected to punching compared to female victims.

This bit definitely surprised me. While this is subjective, I consider punching to be generally more violent than grabbing or pushing. Does this mean that DV against men is typically of a more violent nature?

Higher rate of weapon use by female abusers makes sense, but I suspect sampling bias too: men with only bruises will not not seek police protection.

Not necessarily, this may be again just sampling bias. Grabbed or pushed man will not call the police.

Good points, though I can tell you from experience that a punched man generally won't call the police either.

I think the range of what pushing and grabbing can mean is rather broad, especially if we’re considering the size and strength differences on average, it probably just means that pushing and grabbing are more viable for men as a go to method of intimidation, where female abusers on men might go for other tactics to intimidate or humiliate their victim. Either way a grabbing and I think pushing especially have a fairly wide spectrum of violence depending on the context (a quick shove vs a push into a wall). Not to say your point isn’t viable or that it’s a bad observation, but I also think we should be a little careful when making assumptions in regards to abuse tactics.

i think the cuts vs bruises is because men would punch and hit while women would scratch and cut.
