You'd think premature birth, birth defects, lung and brain damage to the baby, stunted growth and an increased risk of SIDS would be enough to deter pregnant women from smoking, but alas...

would be enough to deter pregnant women from smoking, but alas...

Many women don't give a single fuck about anybody but themselves and smoking and drinking pregnant women are the first and biggest demonstration of this.

To add to that, studies suggest vaping is potentially more harmful due to the "endless" usage of it and the long term affects haven't been well documented. You smoke one cigarette, you're done, you smoke another one in 30 min, hour, two hours etc. With a vape, it's non stop every 5 minutes. I don't vape myself but I've caught myself doing it when handed a vape without knowing I'm doing it, almost instinctually. Then there's the flavours and the smoke that makes it "fun". If it's not the nicotine that will hook you, it's the habit of "ripping a fat cloud" or the flavour.

[–]BoreDominated 14 points15 points16 points 3 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

From what I've seen, it's more likely to be the nicotine. I've had friends and my own mother who were hooked until they switched to no nicotine and now they barely use it.

[–]Cbd_7ohm 5 points6 points7 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It is the nicotine. It's a crap drug, and the buzz lasts like 2 minutes with tolerance(like 30-60 minutes without tolerance, for inhalation).

[–]glock3299 6 points7 points8 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

You're totally right I was a smoker and I would maybe smoke 15 or so cigerettes a day, and I quit and switched to vaping and I was hitting that thing endlessly because it's just so easy to hit anywhere. Anyways after awhile I felt worse than when I was smoking.

[–]xsplizzle 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Nonsense, show me these studies.

The only thing the anti vaping groups have to say these days is 'the long term effects arent well documented', which seems like a bad argument, the long term effects of the covid vaccine arent known yet but its only nutjobs who say things like that but when people say the same thing about vaping its somehow different?

[–]schmadimax -1 points0 points1 point 3 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

It's a very bad argument indeed because vaping is the most researched thing in cancer research over the past 20+ years, nothing in cancer research has had more research done than vaping and the long term side effects are miniscule because of course all the harmful chemicals are in much lower doses than in cigarettes.

[–]Cbd_7ohm 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

The average person is too dumb to do 5 minutes of basic research.

[–]schmadimax 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Unfortunately you're very right about that, I've done my own extensive research into the cancer research surrounding it and stumbled upon a video by Yorkshire Cancer Research about vaping that they made, that was quite interesting. I'm very glad I found it, it's how I managed to get my parents to shut up about saying vaping = just as bad as cigarettes.

[–]Cbd_7ohm -1 points0 points1 point 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Nicotine causes clear tolernace dependence and withdrawal with chronic use in mice/rats and humans. It's very measurable. Changes in d1 receptor nach a4b2 and a3b4 etc.

[–]Cbd_7ohm -2 points-1 points0 points 3 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

False. All the data shows vaporization is more safe than smoking, in every way. There is long term data as well. Chain vaping can be an issue though. That has more to do with the lack of satisfaction from pure nicotine vs a mixture of alkaloids, terpenes etc., although pure nicotine is significantly safer than an air pasteurized tobacco which is much safer than flue/burley cured tobacco or any fermented tobacco(high in tsnas). Vaporization under combustion temperature will always be safer than vaporization above combustion temperature. It's like asking which us more dangerous, a steak charred 100% through cooked at 1000f, or a properly seared and cooked medium steak. One is literally a hunk of polyaromatic hydrocarbons and other toxic compounds and tastes like shit, and the other isn't, and tastes great. Only difference here is tobacco itself is rather toxic(more so than opium, yet opium is illegal), but that changes nothing about the argument.

Or maybe they can take responsibility and not harm their growing child by stopping altogether? Smh not that hard to take good care of a child developing, all you have to do is avoid anything potentially harmful.

Poor people are in a bad situation and i feel more empathy for them than you do. You literally dodged the point entirely. Point was what a mother ingests during pregnancy effects the baby and they shouldn’t be smoking at all because of the horrible effects on a developing baby.

[–][deleted] 7 points8 points9 points 3 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I’m interested in that point, where did you find the link between being poor and smoking? Did you mean smoking makes you poor because of how expensive it is?

[–]equalRights111 5 points6 points7 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Of course not, personal responsibility isn’t a thing in this modern era.

[–]Merebankguy 13 points14 points15 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Something about their body their choice 🙄

[–]Still-Association-52 22 points23 points24 points 3 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Vapes don't help. They worsen depression.

Dated a chick who fucking slept with a vape pen. Literally rolling over in the night to take a hit from it.

[–]No_Tunghyereine3805 2 points3 points4 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

true. it's all just excuses & lies

[–]Aimless-Nomad 10 points11 points12 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Meanwhile homeless men having no money for food are told to fuck off and check their privilege.

Or even someone dying of intestinal problems. (mods deleted the text, this sub is also a lost cause looks like it, ill post text below)

I'm dying of intestinal failure and a feminists admin told me "As a privileged, cis white man, you shouldn't be asking for help." Discrimination First of all, to give a bit of context to my situation, my wife made a little video about it: https://youtu.be/RVAOBTZGOuM and this https://youtu.be/FxiJVnwjmjQ

Years ago I joined a feminist FB group out of curiosity to see what sort of opinions they genuinely have. It was a large FB group, with tends of thousands of women all discussing their points of view about various subjects. I never took part in any of their discussions. Then a few weeks ago, I made my first post ever, discussing my declining health, and how I Was dying.

I got lots of supportive responses, people saying that they wanted to help me some how: https://ibb.co/v4r0WnkMy health situation has since deteriorated, so today, out of desperation, I made my 2nd post ever on that group, only asking for advice on how to get fundraising so that I could pay for my medical bills and stay alive: https://ibb.co/wsddhGX As you can see, the admin took my post down.

She also sent me a direct message stating the reason it was taken down was because I was being disrespectful to women and LGBMT with my post. I enquired how my post was in anyway disrespecting women, and she said it was because, "As a privileged, cis white man, you shouldn't be asking for help."

She went on to say that my post was offensive to others because it showed how people like me just presume they can get help from others, while apparently women and LGBT folks never get help from anybody. So there you have it, my great experience of the day. My health is declining, my wife is desperately trying to get help from others (She was active here a week ago or so), and I'm being told by feminists that I should never ask for the bare minimum of help, just because I am a straight white man. Fuck my life.

[–]u2020bullet 3 points4 points5 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Maybe give them nicotine receptor blocker pills instead? If they're safe for pregnant women of course. That way they completely dump the habit. That's how the wife and I kicked it. And it's cheaper than vape pens, even the cheapest ones.

[–]3172695 9 points10 points11 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

If they want to smoke, they should just get an abortion imo.

[–]Drakethepirate 2 points3 points4 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

So irresponsible from them

[–]delocalelectron 2 points3 points4 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

There's no need to take responsibility for anything, ladies. Here's some free shit.

And we wonder why they behave like spoiled children.

[–]aigars2 2 points3 points4 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Give a way out of responsibility as always.

[–]LordDrenghul 2 points3 points4 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

If you actually want to quit smoking vaping is a great tool. I used to smoke cigars a lot but switched to a vape and I weaned myself off the nicotine within a year. I gave it to my mom when I got to zero nic. She didn't wanna quit smoking tho so now she has a vape in one hand and a nasty cigarette in the other alternating. Dafuq?

Anyway quitting smoking cold turkey is very difficult so I can't blame them for offering vapes to pregnant women in an effort to protect the baby. Although I'd prefer them offering patches or gum so they aren't inhaling stuff.

[–]amethystwyvern 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I'd be surprised but in the era of "My Body My Truth My Rights wahh" anything is possible.

[–]weirdornxtlvl 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

This is so disgusting to me, but again it falls into the abusive, outreaching idea of "my body, my choice". The moment a woman agrees to have a man's semen it is a contract and not "bodily autonomy" with set rules of responsibilities and rights for both parents regarding abortion and child support.

Smoking or drinking during pregnancy should be considered child abuse and a felony. The impact of smoking during pregnancy is lifelong and life changing: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3676311/

Vaping isn't better than smoking, it's just what they're selling right now

[–]No_Tunghyereine3805 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

true, people will buy anything if it marketed right even if the same thing with different colours

[–]Cbd_7ohm 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (34 children) | Copy Link

You have no idea what you're talking about. 100% of the research shows vaporization under combustion is SIGNIFICANTLY safer than smoking(partial combustion, vaporization with pyrolysis). Learn what a polyaromatic hydrocarbon is. Learn what a tsna is. Learn what carbon monoxide is. Or just don't learn and stfu.

[–]chill_stoner_0604 -1 points0 points1 point 3 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

Vaping is "safer" if you go only by the contents of the smoke but when you consider how much more smoke is inhaled as compared to smoking cigarettes and the fact that vapes are generally used FAR more often, I think it's safe to say the risks are comparable for most people

[–]Cbd_7ohm 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

Vapor isn't smoke, but smoke is vapor. The amount of vapor you inhale has nothing to do with how toxic what you're inhaling is. Air is literally gas just like vapor. Different molecules are different. Vegetable glycerin isn't benzene. People use similar amounts of nicotine regardless of whether they smoke or vape. 100% of the research shows that vaporization under combustion temperature is significantly safer than combustion. You need to learn how to read. There is no excuse for being this ignorant. You have access to the internet. Use it.

[–]chill_stoner_0604 -1 points0 points1 point 3 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

How about you go tell all of that to my doctor who is saying that my lungs are fucked because I vaped a JUUL for 3 years. In the meantime, I'm going to listen to medical professionals over Google searches.

Also, you seem to be ignoring a lot of research if you really think that 100% of it found it to be safer. I've seen several studies that have found metals such as nickel to be prevalent in vape juice.

I don't smoke cigarettes either. I don't smoke anything with synthetic chemicals added and, if you're smart, you'll do the same.

Saying that it's safer is misleading and part of the reason many young kids are now doing it

[–]Cbd_7ohm 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago* (2 children) | Copy Link

Contaminated products from China or wherever else, has nothing to do with vaping, nor does that disprove that vaporization is safer than combustion, and commercial tobacco has heavy metals regardlessof brahd. Your doctor is not a scientist. Your doctor doesn't do experimental studies. Yes indeed, 100% of the data shows that vaporization under combustion temperature is safer than smoking. You have no counter evidence. Juuls are cheap pieces of garbage with shitty atomizers and use benzoic acid for the nicotine salt which can turn into benzene with excess heat. None of that is the fault of vaporization itself. That is your fault for not doing research. You have no evidence that smoking would have somehow preserved your lungs either(which there is 0 evidence of in the entire science archive). You clearly have a very small understanding of chemistry, biology, and pharmacology.

[–]chill_stoner_0604 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

You have no evidence that smoking would have somehow preserved your lungs

The fuck did you pull that from? I never said it was more dangerous just that saying it's a safe alternative is ignorant and leads to misunderstandings

[–]Cbd_7ohm 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It is a safer alternative. No one said it was 100% safe. Neither is frivolous sex with strangers but using a condom can totally change your life for better or worse, just like vaporization over combusting. I don't just know the science, I've been through it myself.

[–]Cbd_7ohm 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I low temp dab live rosin in a quartz banger. I don't use any tobacco products anymore. What I'm saying still applies to that any anything else that can be vaporized. Cannabis smoke is significantly more toxic than cannabis vapor under combustion temperature.

[–]chill_stoner_0604 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That's why I love edibles

[–]SilentConstruction28 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (25 children) | Copy Link

Results paid for by vape producers

[–]Cbd_7ohm 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (24 children) | Copy Link

No, it's just basic biology/pharmacology and chemistry. Educate yourself for once.

[–]SilentConstruction28 -1 points0 points1 point 3 years ago (23 children) | Copy Link

I think someone owns a vape shop and thinks a bunch of random chemicals are a good thing to smoke.

[–]Cbd_7ohm -1 points0 points1 point 3 years ago (22 children) | Copy Link

Vape juice isn't random chemicals, goofball. Also there are other things you can vaporize. You still haven't educated yourself.

[–]SilentConstruction28 -1 points0 points1 point 3 years ago (21 children) | Copy Link

Educate myself about vape pens, not really worth the time. You're the only person that seems passionate about vape pens. Enough at least to spend Your day trying to insult people over vapes.

[–]Cbd_7ohm -1 points0 points1 point 3 years ago (20 children) | Copy Link

You have no point or argument. You're the one saying vaping is as bad as smoking with zero evidence. Get a brain

[–]SilentConstruction28 -1 points0 points1 point 3 years ago (19 children) | Copy Link

The whole argument is about giving vapes to pregnant women and you don't think that's a bad thing. You definitely work at a vape shop. And you have no evidence, all you do is say there's evidence, it's not actual evidence if it's just something you googled

[–]Cbd_7ohm -1 points0 points1 point 3 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

I never said it was good to give it to them. You don't know how to read. I have plenty of evidence. You're an idiot if you think something is invalid because it is hosted on a website.

[–]Cbd_7ohm -1 points0 points1 point 3 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link

100% of the data shows vaporization under combustion temperature is significantly safer than partial combustion. You have zero counter evidence. You make yourself look like a total buffoon when you choose to ignore conclusive evidence. You clearly don't understand anything about biology, pharmacology, or chemistry. You don't know what benzene or napthelene are. You don't know what carbon monoxide is. You don't understand what formaldehyde is. You don't know what acreolin and acrylamide are. You don't know what free radicals and ROS are. You don't understand what cellular damage or DNA fragmentation is. You don't know what pyrolysis is. You don't understand anything apparently.

The point of this is harm reduction. When someone is addicted to something, it's much harder for them to "just stop" than it would be for the rest of us to stop doing something. Addiction is a mental illness. If doctors realize that vaping is less harmful during pregnancy than smoking cigarettes, then it makes sense for them to promote it for pregnant women who are smoking cigarettes. Is either good? Of course not. But if your options are 2 bad things, the best choice is the least bad choice. Having people immediately quit their addictions just isn't a realistic solution.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

I understand that. But with the horrible outcomes for babies who are effected by smoke ingestion, wouldn’t it be more effective and ethical to provide subsidised therapy and smokeless solutions for their addiction? Feels as if this will go sideways and they will just be enabling them to smoke more etc

[–]fillmorecounty 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

I mean the smokeless solutions aren't really better. Chewing tobacco is about as bad as smoking cigarettes during a pregnancy.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

I meant solutions for smokeless life sorry. My bad I don’t know how I fucked it up that bad. My point was wouldn’t those resources be better used to subsidise counselers who know a lot about addiction to help them quit.

[–]fillmorecounty 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

What could a counselor tell you that'll rewire your brain like that?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

We’ll they can’t. But they can plant the idea of quitting and help it happen.

[–]fillmorecounty 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Okay but that doesn't happen overnight. This is a short term harm reduction effort.

[–]Shadowdragon409 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I don't see how this is a men's rights issue. Outside of that, that is fucked up. Reads like an onion title.

[–]Drofflies -2 points-1 points0 points 3 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Maybe better to deter smoking women from getting pregnant.

[–]No_Tunghyereine3805 -1 points0 points1 point 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

that's a good solution make them choose

[–]HotaruZoku 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
