First of all, hello!

I wanted to thank you a lot for taking the time to post this here, cause you did NOT have to do all that, but I find it extremely respectable.

I read your paper in it’s entirety, and I wanted to start off by saying that your conclusion left me feeling hopeful, but as you might imagine, there were some things that didn’t resonate with me, if you care to read:

“[Antifeminists] are highly reactive to anyone that rejects their beliefs. This reactive nature is a fundamental aspect of antifeminism, and it endangers the lives of women online and in the real world.”

It feels hypocritical to me to claim that antifeminists are highly reactive to those that reject their beliefs, and in the same breath claim that it is their nature to put women’s lives in danger. That doesn’t sound like you’re strongly reacting to beliefs that oppose you?

“What results is a gated community built for and servicing white men; they bolster each other’s voices, invalidating opinions they have not heard, creating an anti-feminist petri dish– and convincing themselves that they are utterly, inarguably superior to women.”

I mean, every politically charged community is gated to an extent. For instance should you QUESTION a redditor in r/ fourthwavefeminists, you will be banned permanently without a second thought. Whilst I do wish political reddit communities weren’t so big on censorship, it’s something which is natural to ALL of reddit, not just r/antifeminists.

Also, I personally have yet to meet an antifeminist who believes that men are the superior sex, and AS an antifeminist I’m not seeking superiority. All I want is to end the normalization of misandry, and start feeling like women actually care whether the men that built their societies live or die.

Seriously though, thanks for posting.

Hello.

As a scientist and fellow academic, I have to wonder at this paper. It seems you took six pages to say you don't like male centered content. And that's ok. You can dislike anything.

But there's just no substance or facts. If anti feminism is a gateway to the Right, then isn't feminism, by contrast, a gateway to the Left? You say we are responding to a small minority of feminism, but never say what the majority is. Are we supposed to take your word on that, Ipsi Dixit? You never say what rights feminists are fighting for. Can you name a single right in America that men have that women don't? And you never address the hashtag killallmen crowd.

You kind of assume the right is a terrorist organization with zero justification. Where's your data?

What can be proposed without evidence can be dismissed without evidence.

You gave one or two examples of inflammatory content and represented it as a whole. You did no digging on how much of the content follows that line. You just found one that confirmed your bias. And confirmation bias is poor form.

I see a lot of bias, and little actual facts. All sizzle, no steak.

I would send it back for rewrite to eliminate the bias and do more real sociological research into the why and how. It doesn't seem that you are all that informed on the subject matter. Perhaps tape a few interviews with Men's Rights Advocates. Get the entire story through the eyes of your subjects.

It's a fluff piece that Huffington would love. But by academic standards? It's dismal. Dig deeper.

"This reactive nature is a fundamental aspect of antifeminism, and it endangers the lives of women online and in the real world"

"it has never been about women, but how men perceive women and their imagined crimes against men"

Didn't care to make it past the third page or so. Your little "paper" is not only projection on a ludicrous level, it's entirely subjective yet played off as fact. And that's not even talking about how ludicrous and asinine your comments truly are. "Endangers women online", Jesus... imagine being that fragile. And "in real life"? There isn't a shred of evidence to support that.

You ask us to keep an "open mind", yet brand all anti-feminists as default women-hating would be terrorists whose opinions destroy society. Get over yourself. You didn't so much as provide a speck of proof to support anything you're saying.

So even if I am pro women , men , human rights but I disagree with the feminist ideology I am harming women. Even though especially feminism the last years has consistently harmed men and by proxy women.

Makes sense

I agree that there are some people here with "cult" mentality or who post random stuff that shouldn't be posted here but that happens literally everywhere. Observe many feminism subreddits and if you don't see it you are a part of it.

You have done well in your Essay to appeal to emotion but nothing more than that.

By the way I love how feminism cannot handle criticism even on things they do wrong and constantly misinform mainstream media but no we found the BigBagEvilGuy right here. Fix your ideology and movement and then I would have no problem to be called a feminist as well.

Hey thanks for sharing! It takes guts to do that and I really respect that. I did have a few thoughts! I agree with many of your points, especially that many of the posts in this sub are emotional reactions to things on social media. I think this is a somewhat true point that you could get more detailed with. It would be interesting to do a text analysis of the sub to see some of the most commonly used words and phrases. Also, it would be neat to do a user analysis to see what other subs people belong to.

You also make a point in one of the final paragraphs, saying that feminism as depicted in the media is different from true feminism. Who decides what "true feminism" is and how? Why do they allow the media to go uncorrected? How does our media get it wrong and what are the consequences? Why are we still not allowed to talk about this in most public spaces?

im going to say politely

if this was a piece written for a gender studies class , you would do very well.

But its written poorly and from an obvious bias( you even attempted to throw in race)

I believe you are supposed to start from a neutral standpoint and then lead the readers to a conclusion based on the sources you used.

if however you used only sources that come from the same set of bias, then the results are going to be pretty obvious. i give an example( i can only think of cassie jays work right now) of offering to both sides of the argument.

you would ( and should) argue from the opposite point( sort of like a counterpoint?) to see if what you claim can stand up to evidence from a broad spectrum of views and sources.

if I attempt to give example from this subreddit in that the feminists will argue in an emotional manner( feelings not fact) with unsubstantiated claims or claims that cannot withstand rationale and testing. this subreddit will then counter with facts( and hopefully understandable logic :) ). I believe this may be one of many reasons why feminists get very upset when their narrative is challenged, they lose the argument and then resort to labelling( incel etc)

if the purpose is to convince the subject of your paper, then this wont work. its the equivalent of shouting at someone in their face to agree to your premise(?)

if you were to attempt this style in other subjects( that have a lot of peer review) I suspect the response will not be complementary..

However you have plenty of time to revise your methods and approach.

wish you the best of luck..

I don't want to address the author directly, but I wanted to point out some things for the benefit of others here.

There exist academic departments in western universities that are able to masquerade as academics and pass off what they do as academic work, even though they do not have to follow any of the rules of other departments. Their theories are not subjected to review by other professionals. They do not have to use any type of quantitative reasoning. Unlike every other discipline, they can use grand conclusory statements, without proof, and without even the ability to prove or disprove anything they say.

The concept of "peer" review in their case merely serves to insulate them from review by capable members of their field. So if they publish something about gender, only other gender professors will review them. That would be analogous to a new field of physics in which physicists predict the future by watching the constellations and the arrangement of animal gizzards, but they were not reviewed by other physicists, but by other occultists.

Also, these departments are pervasive and influential, perhaps not on the general public, but on the children of the wealthy and influential, in other words, on he aristocracy. They are analogous to the Wahabi sectarian scholars of the Middle East, or the clerics of Iran. The average person doesn't actually believe what they say. But there ideas are used to influence policy at the highest levels.

What is needed is to depose these departments in all of the universities. That would require men to go into Social Science fields, and also for women in those fields to be able to safely ally with them. And of course, the people already in control of those departments would label anyone try to reform them as "white supremacists" and so forth, and do everything they could to force them out. But that is what would be needed. There would have to be a real Gender Studies program, that consisted entirely of so-called "red pilled" scholars, but really, they would just be scholars who adhered to minimal standards in their work and did not permit rambling half baked opinions to count as academic work.
