No it's not sexism. Complainers just cannot handle dark jokes.

Humour exagerates certain stereotypes and situation to make a funny context. You do not need to be racist to find a racially motivated joke funny.

It basically boils down to "can you take a joke at your own expense and not treat it personally but see humour behind it?" If you can't do that, you will always think that jokes are opressing the person who is the butt of it...

No jokes aren't meant to be taken seriously and often highlight the absurdity of sexist opinions. They're not sexist.

If we want to get pedantic, OP was worse by personally targeting the commenters wife.

The joke is sexist but it's not actual hate on women. If it's only said as a joke and not taken seriously, it's fine. However there will always be some people who think the person actually thinks that way/hates women, and gets offended. Jokes are meant to be funny, and a lot of funny jokes play on stereotypes which we can acknowledge are funny and just stereotypes and nothing more. Stereotypes are extremes, and we can acknowledge the humor in extremes.

As my man Jim Morrison said "No-one here gets out alive". Anyone who can't grasp the essential absurdity of life doesn't fully comprehend the fact that they're going to die one day.

In the famous words of Jimmy Carr “There is the thing… then there is joking about the thing. This is not the same.”

No, it doesn't. It only equates to sexism for the most fragile, easily triggered, emotional hemophiliacs amongst our society. If someone doesn't like the joke then they need to keep moving. No one is stopping them, but to label jokes as sexist because you don't like them is the equivalent of a toddler freaking out about not getting the cereal they want in the grocery aisle. It's ludicrous and ridiculously immature.

No because the whole premise of a joke is to entertain and a lot of entertaining things aren’t true. Movies are meant to entertain but no one believes they actually happen how they are portrayed just like jokes. People take jokes way too seriously.

Do racist jokes equate to racism? If the answer to that is yes, than the answer to this is yes.

[–]MiguelAlonsoUwU -2 points-1 points0 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Its the same logic, you really have to be idiologically blind to think otherwise

[–]RunikVarze -1 points0 points1 point 3 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

No. Jokes are not an actual reflection of someone's world view. They're intentionally absurd. That's the part that makes people laugh.

Anybody who gets offended by a joke just has no sense of humor. I will admit there are some jokes that just aren't funny, and there are people who abuse the suspension of disbelief to say some absolutely abhorrent things. But humor is a sacred grounds where we can supercede the atrocities of the world and overcome that pain.

"some jokes that just aren't funny"

Well yeah, "let's r*pe some women" is not as funny as "How do you get an emo out of a tree, you cut the rope"

[–]RunikVarze 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

And all the people who downvoted the post? They don't understand humor. Either that, or they don't realize that I acknowledged that it can be taken too far. Either way, they're dumb.

Yes, they do

[–]ELLENRAPELEY2 7 points8 points9 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The person telling the joke isn’t sexist, it’s a joke.

[–]Masked_Rebel 2 points3 points4 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

No, they don't

Not joking about said subject is exclusive. Acknowledging the outcast. Joking about said subject is inclusive. If you’re equal and want to be treated as such, jokes are acceptable.
