They lack tolerance. A bit ironic, when considering the western democracies should be tolerable towards wide range of idealogies and ways of thinking.

Basically free market of ideas, let ideas clash and figure out which ones work. And this effort to insult and gaslight others is to no help, because it works as a censorship of sorts. How you can get best results if you're not willing to discuss ideas you politically are not supporting?

[–]outofmindwgo -1 points0 points1 point 3 years ago (23 children) | Copy Link

Is this sub different?

[–]PlzSendDunes 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (22 children) | Copy Link

Please provide evidence to your implication.

[–]outofmindwgo 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (21 children) | Copy Link

Well, I was just reading through the thread on "Incels", and I feel like the same way that some people on that sub will fall into hyperbole about how men behave and such; contributers to this sub were very comfortable being hyperbolic about how the term incel is used. Nobody pointed out that, while sure, sometimes it's used inappropriately, there is a niche of men who identify with it and have very hateful views towards women, or feel they should be entitled to sex. Acknowledging both would be nice.

This whole sub is by definition reactionary, so I don't expect a nuanced assessment of feminism, but the irony of "the other side literally always thinks we're demons" goes both ways. Yes, some of your ops are ridiculous. And so are some people on your side.

Attacking a steelman of your opponents ideas is really the only decent option imo

[–]PlzSendDunes 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (20 children) | Copy Link

You provided no evidence. But let's talk about it nonetheless.

Some feminists said kill all men, vasectomise men, put men who get no action in bed in jail, because they are terrorists and rapists.

This sub said that those statements are crazy and feminist circles if they allow those narratives and support them to go around, are delusional.

How those two actions are the same? Does this subreddit calls for a genocide, castrations or imprisoning people for no good reason? Or does this sub calls out the delusions, lies, manipulations and abhorrent behaviour of feminist circles?

[–]outofmindwgo 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (19 children) | Copy Link

The posts in that thread? How is that not evidence?

How those two actions are the same? Does this subreddit calls for a genocide, castrations or imprisoning people for no good reason? Or does this sub calls out the delusions, lies, manipulations and abhorrent behaviour of feminist circles?

This is my evidence!

You are characterizing feminism according to the worst statements you can make.

But you totally ignored my example of incels who think they deserve women's bodies, and there's of course much much worse out there too.

I don't understand how you don't see the hypocrisy. Do you think "kill all men" is a reasonable characterization of that sub, let alone "feminism"? Because if so I'd say you should focus on your own delusions first

[–]PlzSendDunes 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (18 children) | Copy Link

How is incel sub is this sub?

[–]outofmindwgo 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (17 children) | Copy Link

It's not, but also Twochromosomes isn't a kill all men sub

[–]PlzSendDunes 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (16 children) | Copy Link

Look carefully at the picture. This sub was mentioned there. That why it's posted here and discussed here.

[–]outofmindwgo 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (15 children) | Copy Link

I already understood that. I feel you are ignoring my point now

[–]PlzSendDunes1 point 3 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

No I am not. You are trying to conflate hate speech within feminist circles and criticism of said hate speech as one and the same. Which is not.

[–]outofmindwgo2 points 3 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

You are trying to compare a good aspect of people you associate with, with a bad aspect of the group you disagree with, and you are straight up lying that that's the comparison I made.

It's dishonest

[–]PlzSendDunes1 point 3 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Let me get it straight. Things in this world exist because of niche they fulfill. This sub fulfills a niche of calling out delusions, inciting crimes against humanity and hate speech coming from feminist circles. If feminists themselves were to not allow generation of that kind of speech or fighting against it within their circles, this sub would become empty within 3months tops.

But here you are trying to say we shouldn't criticise and call out those things, because some feminists are good. Hate to break it to you, but an old guard of feminists who came out to criticise new wave of feminism which instead of being for rights is becoming a hate group have been attacked by new wave of feminists.

[–]outofmindwgo2 points 3 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Things in this world exist because of niche they fulfill.

Not sure

This sub fulfills a niche of calling out delusions, inciting crimes against humanity and hate speech coming from feminist circles.

Well, that's your characterization, I would not agree that's why this sub exists even if at some times it can do agreeable things

feminists themselves were to not allow generation of that kind of speech or fighting against it within their circles, this sub would become empty within 3months tops.

As though any loosely associated ideological ideas could police each person who claims them? Absurd. But you don't seem as upset about actual misogyny, curious

But here you are trying to say we shouldn't criticise and call out those things, because some feminists are good.

When did I say that? Of this sub has any viryue, it's to criticize. But to criticize the most obviously immoral idea; "kill all men" is basically worthless. Yes, sometimes feminist engage in hyperbole! So do you!

Hate to break it to you, but an old guard of feminists who came out to criticise new wave of feminism which instead of being for rights is becoming a hate group have been attacked by new wave of feminists.

Why do you think this is news to me? What does this have to do with anything I've argued?

[–]PlzSendDunes1 point 3 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

It's pointless to talk about misogyny, because anything can be claimed misogynistic.

This sub exists to call out hate speech coming from feminist circles and will continue to exist.

You are trying to say that we shouldn't criticise feminists, when even an old guard are being attacked by new wave feminists.

[–]outofmindwgo2 points 3 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

It's pointless to talk about misogyny, because anything can be claimed misogynistic.

Hey, I disagree. Shockingly.

This sub exists to call out hate speech coming from feminist circles and will continue to exist.

I know you see it that way, but I feel it actually is a reactionary sub that picks at the worst of "feminism " (a good thing) but also presents a very narrow and unnuanced view of feminism (a bad thing)

You are trying to say that we shouldn't criticise feminists, when even an old guard are being attacked by new wave feminists.

Friend, I literally did not say that. In fact, I said criticism itself is virtuous!

[–]PlzSendDunes1 point 3 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Okay. Imagine I am a film critic. I would watch a movie and then do a review and put a criticism of the movie. Bad acting, bad writing, inconsistent plot, sub-par movie effects.

Does a statement from a director "this person just doesn't look at the nuances of the movie" or "he is just as bad person as I/we are" or "he is just reactionary", do they hold water?

[–]outofmindwgo2 points 3 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

"Bad" is a rather hacky criticism of a film. What is meant by the film? What is attempted that it fails? What does one feel when they watch it? Does it appeal to someone else's tastes and why?

Like sure, sometimes a film might feels cheap and not worthwhile. Or it might be very boring without much to either enjoy or consider. Or it might be morally obtuse or even condemnable.

Is birth of a nation bad? Morally it is inexcusable!

But it's a bit of weird analogy, since feminism is a broad category, and a single movie is not.

It would be more like generalizing that a genre you don't like is "bad". Which, yes, I would say is unnuanced and kind of worthless as an opinion.

Id also like to point out you didn't acknowledge that you accused me of saying the opposite of what I explicitly did say, which has greatly lowered my expectations for your good faith.

[–]PlzSendDunes1 point 3 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

I was putting your statements in a different context. And asking whether your statements would hold water in that context. Hence analogy is on point.

If you want to feel offended, feel free to do so. I got no intention to offend, but neither I will try to pick out words and sentences in a way that they wouldn't offend you.

[–]outofmindwgo1 point 3 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

I was putting your statements in a different context. And asking whether your statements would hold water in that context. Hence analogy is on point.

This does not address the issue I pointed out with your analogy. This merely speaks to you not engaging my criticism, it does not make it a good analogy!

If you want to feel offended, feel free to do so.

I'm not offended, and not sure why you would think so.

neither I will try to pick out words and sentences in a way that they wouldn't offend you.

I wouldn't suggest you do. But I would suggest you respond with clarity in a relevant way, which you refuse.

Seems you think it's reasonable of you to accuse me of the exact opposite of what I've said, and reasonable to ignore when I point it out. It's not.

You aren't offensive, you are refusing to have a real conversation

[–]PlzSendDunes1 point 3 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Btw, analogy is on point. Do arguments hold water in that context.

What opposite did I say?

[–]outofmindwgo1 point 3 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

They aren't analogous, and I even gave you a closer analogy (genre)

[–]outofmindwgo1 point 3 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Also, it's kind of bizarre because I said I thought criticism was good, yet you accused me of saying the opposite. It's like nothing I write makes it to your brain.

[–]PlzSendDunes1 point 3 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

You were making statements about that this sub is criticising only some feminists. Well this sub is about criticising feminism and only way to do so, is by criticising feminists. As I previously mentioned, if feminists would start fighting against hate speech and inciting crimes against humanity, this sub would disappear. So no, this sub is not against free speech as you implied by your first comment making parallels between criticism and hate speech, nor people should not be able not to criticise because nobody is perfect.

[–]outofmindwgo1 point 3 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Lemme leave you with my point as succinct as possible:

Criticism is good, but you ought to steelman your opponents rather than rely on hyperbole or the worst examples

I got banned from there for saying hating men is sexist and shouldn't be promoted/tolerated. But that's par for the course at this point.

I don't even bother at this point. I kind of already am waiting for climate change to wash this shit away as it is

2X Chromosome put the Westboro Baptist Church to shame with how hateful and intolerant they are. I used to follow them for a while but I realized I'm only exposing myself to radiation level of toxicity so I ended up stopping because I value my mental health.
