Hi all. Apologies if this is an inappropriate sub, I am looking for some help and I am not sure where to go. There are seemingly very few recourses online for men who were victims of physical assault.
My [F26] brother [M22] was assaulted about two years ago now. He was dragged out of bed in his underwear by some dude on coke at a house party and beaten up. My brother didn't fight back. He had emergency surgery to repair a skull fracture, entered a deep depression and dropped out of uni.
He was already pretty depressed and this just made it worse. He has told us (family) very little about the attack and I am not surprised that he wants to avoid it. The last my brother said was that the police were charging this guy with GBH. That was a year ago and in the present day, I can see this guy is on Instagram living his life and not in prison.
My brother obviously does not want to discuss the assault but I still cannot get over it. Every so often it will come up in my mind again and I'm filled with anger, hate, grief etc.
I try to Google advice for men who have been physically assaulted and I can't ever find any resources.
So, I am posting here to ask for: - survivor stories - advice on how best to support my bro - resources for men who have been attacked (e.g. support groups, charities etc)
To be honest he is starting to do well again and i am so grateful for that. I am not going to bring the assault up but if he does decide to talk to me about it, I want to be prepared. Also, for my own piece of mind, I want to hear from men who were assaulted and were able to overcome it. I want to know that my brother will overcome it.
Thank you.
