Which might explain why men are increasingly reluctant to do the little things they used to.

Personally I stopped being a "gentleman" because I started wondering why I was busting a gut for people who viewed me with contempt.

The final straw was that article a while back. I can't find the link but the gist of it was: a young woman would pretend to be a damsel in distress and see how many men would stop to help.

She then complained afterwards that men were only helping because she was female and pretty and obviously just wanted to get in her knickers.

I read that and any last vestiges of "chivalry" I had, shrivelled away.

The modern view of Chivalry neglects the fact that originally Chivalry was a warriors code, which then had ideals of the romance movement tacked on during a period where there was a queen on the throne.

The code was then mimicked by those who were not knights and nobility.

Now all that people think of as "chivalry" are the actions prescribed to men, on the behalf of women, as a part of the romance movement, but they forget the duties of mutual defense and support key to any band of warriors.

Without the warrior code ideals that formed the core of the behavior code, Chivalry was doomed to collapse on itself in any case. That feminists and those under it's sway condemned the code openly just sped it's collapse.

If a man is not a warrior, what reason does he have to protect someone that is not a warrior?

If a woman is not to be his liege, what call has he to kneel to her when proposing they have a relationship?

If a man has no duty to other men, what reason does he have to protect the wives and offspring of other men? Does he somehow have a duty to those women and children, while he has no duty to adult members of his own sex? Preposterous.
