According to Merriam-Webster:

Persuade:

:to cause (someone) to do something by asking, arguing, or giving reasons

Too many feminist using the word coercion indiscrimnately and inaccurately. Remember the infamous article where PZ Meyers accused Michael Shermer of rape, where he cited a supposed letter from female colleague which said "he coerced me into a position where I was unable to consent". But what does that even mean? "He used threats or force to put me in a position where I could not consent". Or more ridiculously: "he used force and threats to put me in a position where he could use force and threats to get something from me". Brilliant. And even more brilliant once we begin to know what really happened there, namely this person got drunk and then had sex with Shermer. Do you picture Shermer here using threats and force to make this person drink alcohol? Very unlikely. What most likely happened there is that he offered her drinks, or persuaded her to have drinks, and then she consented to have sex. Then of course she regretted it. That is assuming this is not PZ Meyer's pure invention. Anyway, that was persuation, not coercion.

Another example comes from a thread in /r/osu. This post http://www.reddit.com/r/OSU/comments/1oc5p8/guy_who_harasses_girls_around_campus/cctmg82 They are complaining at some poor PUA dude so socially clueless that he is hitting on every girl on campus, has molested some girls in the library (most likely place for sexual assault to take place of course), and awkwardly kissed some girls hands.

The issue with PUAs isn't just that they use smarmy pickup lines, it's that they employ date rape tactics to get laid. If you read this creeps blog, he regularly admits to using some of these tactics (namely coercing these girls into drinking 151 despite their initial protests).

So according to this person, the guy is using threats and force in order to make girls drink 151. Is that what really happened? Probably not. What she really meant is that the guy PERSUADED girls to drink 151 despite their initial protests. Again not coercion, but persuasion.

If this misuse of words is bad in everyday life, just imagine how worse it would become in court.

So please people, be aware of this disingenuous use of language. You need to call this BS out, teaching feminists some basic semantics.
