Iron John

It's a classic of the genre, one of the founding texts of the conscious men's movement.

Like all of the "mytho-poetic" men's stuff out there, it's a bit...well, you have to really buy into the idea that early stories and myths are actually full of deep psychological insight. I don't know if that's true, or if it's simply a symptom of how good human beings are at finding meaning in the nonsensical (see: seeing Jesus' face in a potato chip and so on).

Still, I got a great deal out of it, and it's an incredibly meaningful book to me for a variety of reasons.

After my last breakup I felt very emasculated. I was completely BP, and basically let this chick have my balls during the whole relationship. And I was a heartbroken mess. So I started to read... One of the books was Bly's Iron John. It's pretty good, although I only got a little bit out of it. Eventually I found TRP. Take everything you read with a grain of salt, even stuff on TRP. Hold onto the good stuff.
