It's good that equality in the courts is finally starting to happen and women are facing some sort of consequence.

However, I would like to point out that while this is a success, our work is not finished.

Kilner was struck off as teacher and jailed for 14 months

Now, I'm imagining if the roles were reversed...the guy would have got more than a mere 14 months had this been the case. It is alos nice to finally see male victims being regarded as such and described as a "victim" - something we don't see often.

HOWEVER - is this sentencing actually sound at all? The boy was 16 - UK's age of consent. Should we throw people under the bus for having (consensual) sex with people of age? She most certainty abused a position of power and should not be allowed to teach anymore but I would be vocal if a man was jailed for having consensual sex with a girl who was of age.

All in all I have mixed feelings on this. I think overall this is good but the whole age of consent thing makes me unsure.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ages_of_consent_in_Europe#England_and_Wales says that the age of consent in England is normally 16, and has apparently been so from 1885.

It becomes 18 if the older party is in a position of trust though.

That is really the only factor here. That she was 'dogging' (which she may have been using condoms for) and that she had 'unprotected' sex (allegedly) with the lad, is quite irrelevant to whether or not she should be convicted.

Although I can see that form of recklessness and the risk increase to her partner as being things taken into consideration when determining the length of sentencing.

But you don't get "jailed for having unprotected sex" as far as I'm aware.
