She read a post that I put on my facebook wall that says "Feminism doesn't seek to help the problems men face, it seeks to help the problems men are."
Now my intention was to highlight the fact that if you are a male and you have an issue, a feminist institution is probably not the best place to get help. She seemed to take it as "feminism should not exist because it doesn't help men." I did also state that there needs to be a successful equalist movement, but not in the sense that it means we shouldn't have civil rights and women's rights movements. Now we are no longer friends on FB because she needs to set boundaries which = never talking about issues of equality with me. She basically just got in her shots about me and then said "I need to set this boundary," before I was allowed to respond. So far she has not said two words to me in the last week other than "do you have headphones? I'm writing a research paper."
My problems are as follows:
-
to bring it up is a violation of this boundary she has invoked and will probably just turn into a big messy argument where the privileged white male is not respecting boundaries.
-
Her interpretation of my posts are wrong. I think she is framing me according to her concept of a PWM. She is currently doing feminist studies and such at a uni.
-
I don't feel comfortable leaving my room now. I don't mind conflict but not when it's with someone who demonstrates they do not know how to listen or take the time to understand another viewpoint.
