I've been thinking a lot about this lately, does anyone have any links to in depth discussions about this, like how it would actually work? Why don't we have one here, unless this post comes up like once a week and I'm a dumbass noob who hasnt seen it before?

Anyways, for those who don't know the idea of the "financial abortion" is that under the current laws, women have all the power once pregnant. They can choose to get an abortion, give the child up for adoption, or have the child. They can opt out of motherhood, but men cannot opt out of fatherhood if the woman wants to have the child.

This of course leads to the nightmare of men being trapped in child support payments that are not based on any realistic costs of raising a child but instead based on a percentage of their income, and there is no way to audit how this money is being spent.

A "financial abortion" law would enable biological fathers to forfeit their custody rights to the child in order to avoid child support obligations, thus making the system ACTUALLY equal by giving both parties a choice in the matter of pregnancy.

How EXACTLY would this law work? What would it take to prevent weird abuses? Let me start with a proposal, and anyone who's interested can argue for or against it:

Once a woman discovers she is pregnant, she must tell the father/potential fathers within x time period. In order to get custody rights, the father will have to sign a contract with a binding agreement to child support payments within x amount of time so that the woman can make a decision RE abortion/adoption. In the event that the father cannot be contacted or is unresponsive, he will NOT be held accountable for child support.

Here is one tricky part: what if the woman deliberately does not tell him about the pregnancy to try and deny him his custody rights? Would there be any recourse for the man if he found out to pursue custody rights, and how would he prove that he wasn't just trying to get them after previously opting out of child support?

Here is another tricky part: how SHOULD child support in these cases be handled, assuming we had an actual fair system? Would lawyers have to hammer out contracts where potential parents bid on child support payments vs custody rights, like a father is willing to pay X amount/% of income for X amount of time with the child? Maybe a dad wants one weekend a month for 10% of his income for CP, or hes willing to offer 50% income for 50% custody.

The bottom line here is that until both men and women have the right to opt out of parenthood in the event of a pregnancy, we do NOT have equality. We have female supremacy.

Also, for financial abortion to be viable, widespread abortion access would have to be a given, otherwise it would be unfair to women.

Sorry if this is too long or unclear, if one of you gentlemen take it upon you to rephrase it to be shorter and clearer then hats off to you :)
