Are women going to suffer when Western forces leave Afganistan? Absolutely.

Are men going to suffer as well and even die in much greater numbers. Absolutely, but the U.N. doesn't give a fuck.

They care so little about boys that today under the control of the Western forces they tacitly condone bacha bazi (pederastery). It is sad that the Taliban cared more about the welfare of boys than the U.N.

The most we owe Afghan women is weapons so they can do their own killing and defend themselves - no, they should have to buy them the way we did.

I actually disagree with OP. I believe that the military's sole jobs should be to 1. Defend the nation against foreign threats and 2. Fight for those who can't fight for themselves. Lets face it women under the Radical Taliban rule suffered some of the worst hell on earth such as honor killings, acid attacks, stonings, beatings, sanctioned domestic abuse. While men would suffer severe consequences if they violated sharia law they never suffered from honor killings or being married to men twice their age. In this case the military fought the terrorists who took refuge in Afghanistan and now they are fighting for those who cannot fight for themselves... Afghan women. Of corse in addition to rebuilding infrastructure and generally trying to get Afghanistan on the track to not being a shit hole. These improvements rendition everyone but there still remains the cultural belief in Afghanistan that women are inferior and that needs to change.

One final thing the idea that only men die in war is extremely offensive too me as a male who grew up near fort Bragg (one of the biggest us military bases) because I would see female soldiers come home missing legs and mentally scared. While men bear the brunt of the casualties the sacrifice of women in our wars should never be undermined or diminished in anyway. The country of Afghanistan needs the help of powerful nations like the USA but we cannot ignore the fact that afghan women are not treated equally and we must correct that if we wish to turn Afghanistan into less of a third world shit hole.
