I really don't see the issue here as often not in these sort of relationships both parties highly objectify each other as often not its a purely a physical relationship. In other words its a relationship primary on physical attraction and that sex. Not many go past the physical part really.

Why is this written so strangely?

At first it takes a neutral third-person point of view, but then abruptly shifts to the point of view of the mother.

I get that she wanted the readers to approach it first without the bias inherent in her viewpoint, but holy shit is that a bad read.

There's nothing wrong with older women being interested in younger men when they're both still consenting adults. What is disgusting, however, is that her response to him rebuffing her was to try to claim she had a right to make sexual advances after it was made clear he wasn't the slightest bit interested.
