There you have it folks, news is inherently patriarchal!

I mean seriously, did he really just say that he thinks the reporting of facts (ie things that have actually happened) is patriarchy? It's well known most people get their news from the net and there are plenty of feminist sites.

What I got from that article was that women are either too busy to read the news, they see being informed as masculine or only want to hear news when it comes from a woman.

The only justifiable reason is being busy, I totally get that you have to work, take care of your family and take care of yourself.

If you think being informed is inherently masculin then you are doing the exact oposite of what feminism want, you are devaluing your opinion and increasing the relative value of your sexuality.

If you only want to hear news from a woman, you are a sexist hag and it might be in society's best intrest for you to be uninformed. In all honesty though if you want men to be open to listening to women don't shy away form hearing a man out, if you don't you will only succeed in propagating the view that women want a to speak and not talk.

Definitely believable. The women I work with know so little about politics and current affairs and quite obviously couldn't care less. The men on the other hand are much more switched on in that regard; same for my mum and dad.

It couldn't possibly be that women are just less interested in politics. No, no, it must be some vast, quasi-conspiratorial element in society which keeps them from turning on a television and flipping to CNN or reading the news on the internet.

I find this strange most of the time between genders I see them being equally uninformed it is just the occasional person who is really into it that is male which should not be enough to upset the balance that badly. I find this especially strange because their is a woman's organization who I trust more to find information from come around election time for info on the local candidates that I can not remember the name of.

I'm not surprised by this. My experience is that women are generally more interested in celebrity magazines than actual news.

I wonder if it could be caused by the fact that women are more likely to be "single-issue voters".

Like "Hey, this guy isn't opposed to abortion... I'm voting for him regardless of what his other policies are".

Or "Hey, Obama supports VAWA... sound's good to me"

I don't know what this article is talking about. as a woman with a poli sci degree from the best university in Canada I find this appalling. Not only are men more ignorant than women when it comes to politics, but men are willfully ignorant. The men in my school are only good for one thing, and thinking isn't one of them. Leave the politics to the people who know what they're talking about.
