Gail Dines ... believes it is a struggle to find non-violent pornography online.

This is just so brilliantly crazy that it deserved to be picked out.

This morning I watched a video of a teenage girl masturbating in the shower (there I said it, I feel better). I didn't struggle to find it, in fact I struggled to pick it out of the huge number which the web site I used presented me with.

It didn't look all that violent to me, and neither did any of the hundreds of others I could have chosen. But then I could be wrong because I am no expert, and Gail Dines is... wait for it....

almost 80 years worth of "this is what is causing violence". What it looks like to me is 80 years of sociologists and propagandists justifying their existence.

All of the above is conjecture, some long disproven. What we do know, is that statistically, westernized societies are the least violent they have ever been. There is less crime, violence, and sexual assault then there has ever been in ever. The problem is, we have more people then ever, and more media twiddling their thumbs looking for the next sure fire story to fill their 24 hour news cycle. And nothing sells on the news better than shocking crime spree's, school shootings and sexual violence.

So with a lot more people comes a lot more juicy examples of these boogeyman stories. It isn't that it is more prevalent than it used to be, it is that almost everything is recorded in some form or fashion. Just today on reddit I saw the aftermath of thugs who tried to rob the wrong guy and a video of a woman assaulted during a break in in her livingroom from her nanny cam. The news can spend weeks or months rehashing all the texts and facebook conversations a kidnap victim had. The media's bread and butter is no longer hard news. It is no longer investigative journalism. It is just one sensationalist story after another. And society eats it up without perspective. That is why every guy on the street is either a rapist, pedophile or out to murder you. That caricature sells. And the news media is only too happy to fill their 24hr cycle (when the idiot politicians don't give them a better story) with more doom and gloom.
