Showing a dad just enjoying time with his son, and that his Son appreciates him as a father is one of the best dad-themed commercials I've seen of late. The Oreo commercial rocks.

The Google Chrome commercial is a mixed bag. It shows the father as being a loving individual, who cares about the future of his daughter. On the other hand, it shows the father to be technically incompetent. There's no guarantee that those services and the links to them won't be gone and broken by the time she gets those e-mails. In fact, the URLs on some of those services would already have changed in the time frame being depicted.

If you're going to do a virtual album, store the content locally in a folder, then back it up to multiple locations.

That's more a function of Google pushing it's products to be used for something they're not the best solution for, though, than father-hate.

As for the father sending his daughter off to school... I really like that he does so, and tries to give his daughter strength to face this new experiment... but they show him as not being self-assured either, and calling himself over-protective. Even when they show a man in a positive light, his positive qualities also have to be a flaw? That doesn't sit well with me.

The Clorox commercial is actually one I'd call anti-father. The Dad has a goofy look on his face, the experiment goes wrong, and then the self-possessed business woman comes home from work, and imperiously presents the father with the Clorox.

If he was going to clean it up with Clorox, why not cut the time setting up the goofy grin, cut out the mom showing up imperiously, and just show him knowing competently that Clorox is the answer! He then cleans up the various bits of mess in a breeze, showing how well the product works in commercial mock-ups.

As for Dawn... why is it that most "competent" fathers you see on TV these days are feminine? The guy's nearly a metro-sexual in his mannerisms. Don't get me wrong, if a particular guy wants to be feminine, it's not my business...

But by only showing effeminate men to be competent, it plays back into the villainization of masculinity (and thus men) as incompetent.
