As someone who is both mentally ill and obese in Oz, I can confirm that most GPs I've seen over the years have more interest in me loosing weight than helping me manage my mental problems. At least o have found a nice one now who is looking after me right.

Neither problem has an easy solution for the majority of people -- fat people are most likely to stay fat no matter how many diets they inflict on themselves, and mentally ill people tend to not be curable either, at best their illness can be controlled with medication, but in many cases that is not possible.

Help is only useful if it actually helps, otherwise, it's a waste of time and money, and in the case of fat people, often the attempt to cure adds more physical and mental damage.
