Look , I live in China and trying to paint this as a men's rights issue is just not going to fly.

Men and women actually have a reasonably balanced set of protections under Chinese law. Sometimes it's a little harsher on males and sometimes a little harsher on females.

This story is entirely about Chinese culture and law and has nothing whatsoever to do with either men's or women's rights. He didn't want the kid and she didn't know what to do about that. Technically , NEITHER of them had any responsibility whatsoever to see the fetus brought to term. Whether we agree with it or not is a moot point because the government of China goes out of its way to discourage anything but a stable , two-parent family where there's ONLY one kid. It wouldn't matter if the baby was a boy or a girl.

She could have aborted the fetus at any time but was probably hoping to use the baby as a way to get the dad to marry her. He called her bluff. In fact , that's exactly what he told her ... he wanted nothing to do with the kid and would do absolutely nothing to be a father.

In a country where this sort of thing is discouraged from happening as a matter of law , there is no MRA or feminism angle to factor in.

This is definitely not an MR issue. This is a consequence of the one baby law in China. I agree, both parents should be held accountable under the rules, not just the female. The situation is unpleasant to say the least, but it's a choice they made to control the population.

Well done, you've totally misunderstood the article.

1) I don't know why you put in the bit about the mother "accidentally" dropping the child, there is nothing in the article about the mother and if the dropping was accidental, suspicious or what.

2) The reason children are so often abandoned in China is misogynistic in nature, the One Child Policy means parents don't want to have baby girls.

3) Where fathers are not being held accountable is in the rulings around a newly announced Chinese laws. Mothers who give birth out of wedlock will be fined, there is no mention of fathers being punished. So fathers aren't being held accountable.
