I was watching "Bull" the other night (don't judge me, I know it's not great TV but it was entertaining) and in a scene a female lawyer character became irritated with Bull's character, so she slapped him across the face. Obviously he didn't retaliate and just ruefully rubbed his freshly slapped cheek.

That's apparently acceptable. An acceptable way to respond to someone saying something you disagree with (he wasn't insulting her or degrading verbally)?

Her character isn't someone hijacking a plane or violent as such. It's just shown as a way a woman can make a point and shut up a person she disagrees with.

It wasn't portrayed as a violent act or even one that someone should be ashamed of doing.

OK so in my mind I imagined the same scene with the genders reversed i.e. a man slaps a woman across the face for saying something he disagreed with. These days it would never happen.

I also recalled the famous "How could she slap?" YouTube video.

I wish Bull's character had responded by immediately slapping her face back.
