They do this quite often to push a narrative. For instance things iike 'hate crime increases for second year in US', with an article all about Trump, the alt-right, and LBTQ violence. Reality - most of the increase is due to anti-white violence, hate crime is actually at an all time historic low.

Well, the headline doesn't actually give any number ("Life expectancy in US down for second year in a row as opioid crisis deepens")... ~~but life expetency for women dropped by 0.1 years.~~ (edit: except "second").

This is unfortunately statistically correct, but very misleading indeed!! That's the danger of statistics you can manipulate them easily to support any claim you want to make. They should never have averaged it, since life expectancy is almost so often given separately for each gender.
