There are plenty of countries in the world – Afghanistan, the Congo, Saudi Arabia – where women are persecuted horrifically, and suffer unimaginable violence.

Hmm. Let's see:

Percentage of women among homicide victims:

Saudi Arabia - 33%

Afghanistan - 13%

Congo - 19.2%

Global Average - 21%

Men suffer (far) more violence everywhere, including those 3 countries.

Murder rate of women (per year, per 100k inhabitants)

Saudi Arabia - 0.3

Afghanistan - 0.8

Congo - 2.0

United States - 1.0

This means that a woman in Saudi Arabia is 3 times less likely to get murdered than a woman in United States, and a woman in Afghanistan slightly less likely than in the US.

I find no evidence of "unimaginable violence" .

Percentage of women in parliament:

Afghanistan - 28%

Congo - 14%

Saudi Arabia - 20%

United States - 19%

Btw, women made up only 6% of the US Congress in the early 90s when Violence against Women Act was passed, and when many sexual harassment regulations were introduced into big business, and when some universities started experimenting with "Affirmative Consent" policies.

Education:

Saudi Arabia - Girls in Saudi Arabia (and the Middle East) do better in school than boys. Women make up majority of Uni students. Minister of Education is a woman.

Afghanistan - I believe a few years ago women made about 40% of post-secondary students. Hardly a systemic oppression and "horrific persecution". Education levels over there are very low anyway. This is a country where boys under the age of 10 are already working at construction sites.

Congo - Not much info. "Actual school attendance has also improved greatly in recent years, with primary school net attendance estimated to be 82.4% in 2014 (82.4% of children ages 6–11 attended school; 83.4% for boys, 80.6% for girls)." Girls make a minority but again this is hardly a sign of systemic oppression, persecution or anything. Couldn't find info on post-secondary.

Basically, this article is typical moderate feminism that is nowadays present among many conservative, centrist, libertarian and moderate leftist women (Hoff Sommers, shoeonhead, ...). They believe that Western feminism today is silly, but that feminism was good until and including the 2nd wave, and that feminism is still needed in many countries in the world, but not in the West. I don't agree, but still better than nothing, I guess. Dismantling of feminism has to start somewhere.

it's progressives... they're clinically hysterical... look what they did to Ayaan Hirsi Ali.

this is Ali, who was labeled an extremist and her foundation labeled a hate group by the SPLC. did she say death to jews/blacks/muslims? no... her crime is that she mentioned out loud that sharia law includes gems of gender equality like:

if a woman is raped, she must be executed because her having sex outside of marriage constitutes a dishonor on her family
women cannot go out in public without covering themselves head to toe
women cannot use swimming pools when men are using them
women are required to have a male legal guardian. without the permission of her male guardian, she cannot travel, open a bank account, get medical care, get a job, marry/divorce, and more
women cannot sit on planes next to men who are not their guardian
women cannot drive a car even if her guardian is in the car

progressives are purely hysterical. they're so out of control of their emotions that they can't take a remotely rational position.
