We got a coldflash a few days ago, so when a deep layer of snow came this morning we were ready. I worked from 7 to 8, and many others helped too. We were all men. I didnt think of it too much, but after an hour of thawing with my coffee I started to think: where were the women?

Now, I dont blame the women from staying inside. Women are generally weaker and generally more capable of high temperatures. A few old men worked too, but they have been used to it for decades. We of course cleared the stairs of the others too.

But despite not blaming them, I think it shows one of our major issues: men do the duties men have always done, but now we also need to do half of what women have historically done.

I work longer hours in my job than my parents ever did, I work longer than the two grandparents I knew together (she was only part-time). Yet afterwards I have the same chores that they shared. On my day off I still shovel snow.

So with the rise of "equality", when will women lessen mens chores? When will women pick up the snowshovel?
