it may be especially important for heterosexual couples that men are hyperaware of their women partners’ nonverbal communication. Because men and women typically enter sexual encounters with disparate social power — and often with unequal physical power — and expectations, their interactions are especially sensitive to pressure and coercion

I miss the 20th century, when feminists insisted that women are equal to men. This bizarre turnaround, where feminists now insist that women are mere children, helpless victims, and that it's sexist to consider them equal to men... I find that tiresome indeed.

I miss the 20th century, when feminists insisted that women are equal to men.

I think you're longing for a past which never was. The literature directly contradicts this claimed value.

Because men and women typically enter sexual encounters with disparate social power — and often with unequal physical power

I think a lot of you have seen my age of consent arguments. Now, the idea grew from Jordan Peterson, but if you can segment infinitesimally in terms of gender, then you can do that with Power Dynamic as well.

They've come out directly stating that "men typically have more social power", which is yet another form of Power Dynamic. I pretty much called this last year they'd eventually just claim that men and women have inherent power dynamic differences between them and so men would potentially be sexually coercive. Like that woman that sucked aziz ansari's dick and then cried about feeling coerced due to his status.

It'll come down to money next, and it won't matter that a man and woman are the same age.

heterosexual couples that men are hyperaware of their women partners’ nonverbal communication.

This is "read women's minds, we can always claim that you just are shite at reading our 'nonverbal' communication to ruin you".

The trick is that if men look back at past events and have this issue: "It was the look of a man in reckoning — mentally replaying past sexual encounters, searching, pondering, trying to recall conversations and facial expressions, filtering through imperfect memories. Did she seem hesitant? Did I ignore the signs? Was I too aggressive?"

Why not women? After all, if they feel depressed or guilty about a fling, why wouldn't they look back and reframe his behavior as aggressive and ignoring her body language that says she wasn't REALLY interested?

This is another form of power play, which starts with the fact that men must approach women. Far from being put upon, it actually makes women the ones in control. And THEN they claim to be victims of 'so much unwanted sexual attention'.

I joked to my wife the other day saying, "Hey, according to these consent definitions, we've both raped each other." It's an extraordinarily unhealthy view of sex to see it in terms of a power struggle.

IMO, the healthy way to engage in sex is let it be a negotiation between two parties and then let those parties go through with what they agree on. The feminists paint it as if any emotions come into the negotiation at all (and sex is inherently an emotional topic), then the woman is being too manipulated by her own fragile feelings (remember men don't have emotions like women do) to consent.

My advice to men would be, if your relationship isn't close enough for you to have an honest, fair negotiation about the sexual aspect of it, then you're probably in a spot where it's too dangerous for you to have sex.

Because men and women typically enter sexual encounters with disparate social power — and often with unequal physical power

This is true. The man typically has much more physical power than the woman, but women have a much more terrifying amount of social power, much greater than any physical threat.

it's all about Power these days, who has it and who deserves it etc blah blah

so much presumption and projection going for them to say these things

Well, #metoo, you did it. You irreparably destroyed healthy relationships between men and women for posterity.

Actual Misogynists are laughing their asses off right now.

It won’t take a long time, not for me. They’ve turned all men into monsters. I’m done. Whatever happens, my wife will be the last woman I’m ever with.

When you have to worry about having your life ruined from some non-verbal cue or some feeling after the fact, who really has all the power here? The reality is women have all the power in these situations and #metoo is an abusive of that power dynamic.

Man... I keep trying to be extremely sarcastic, and it keeps coming out classic feminist.

Yeah - she is a real whiner winner. men can't understand

[–]DignifiedAlpaca 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yeah, that's the thing... in a way I kind of get where the article is coming from when it says men often enter relationships from a position of greater power since men are on average physically stronger than women, but that really only applies to men who are eager to take advantage of that power to sexually assault someone and then silence them through whatever means possible. For the overwhelming majority of men who have no desire to hurt anyone, many come at relationships feeling like they are in a position of very little power since they have to jump through all these hoops just to avoid looking like a bad person, and even then something they do could be misinterpreted or even intentionally portrayed to make them look like they were trying to take advantage of someone.

So at the end of the day, I feel like the people committing sexual assault and the people making false accusations are the only two groups of people who actually have the power here. Everybody else, both male and female, is feeling powerLESS.

Did the teacher bother to ask any of the women if they received enthusiastic consent every time they had sex?
