Girls outperform boys at school. Manchester Business School's response? Take part in a programme called 'Inspiring Girls' providing 100 girls across the city with a unique insight into business and higher education. Why? Because privilege? Or just because boys are a waste of space (/S)? What?

In The Guardian: "I don’t think that accepting a man’s offer to cover a date really diminishes my feminism ... pay gaps, orgasm gaps and sleep gaps all hit women the hardest. If we [can] benefit slightly from the last few bastions of chivalry while dating, that’s fine by me."

The Guardian: "[P]regnancy and #MeToo - Pregnant women are still being patronised, blamed for our bodies’ failings ...". FACT: Women are 79% of all UK obstetricians and 85% of all those in the US. So who's patronising who?

“strange paradox” = we had pre-conceived beliefs based upon feelings that turned out to be wrong.

Heh ...

“The upshot of this research is neither especially feminist nor especially sad...”

er... so facts are not necessarily “feminist”. LOL.

So Western women choose easier subjects because they can. Non-western women choose harder subjects because their poor and need to.

Since women aren't allowed to be at fault for any social "problem" this article ends with a face saving way to stop worrying about STEM: Western women follow "their passion" (read: easier subjects). Innate ability is euphemized with innate preference. Whatever.

The locations where women are more prevalent in engineering are also patriarchical cultures, in the very literal sense.

I recall an article about a decade ago about how to deal with a candidate's father if he shows up at his daughter's job interview. This behavior was common enough with Indian candidates in engineering that an article was distributed within the community.

These women were likely guided into engineering by their fathers, not necessarily their first choice in field of study.

Just so that everyone is clear, this article has been published just days after this happened:

Yesterday, the U.S. National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) released a memo written by an attorney, Jayme Sophir, which determined that Google did not violate United States federal law when it fired James Damore. Sophir reasoned that references to psychometric literature on sex differences in personality were “discriminatory and constitute sexual harassment,” and on these grounds, Damore’s firing was justified.

What until they see the "equality numbers" from the Nordic countries that will show when truly given the choice, women in general, run away from the STEM professions faster than picking up the dinner check.

I've always wanted to sling that one. During my entire adult life every female friend I ever has talked about how they "wanted" to pay their own way. Yet in what is somehow an incredibly ironic twist, not a single woman I personally dated in my 20's and 30's ever landed underneath that tent.
