WTF is this "mentoring" they keep on about? I thought we had to claw our way to the top over a pile of dead lobsters. Never heard the term until it cropped up in the context of "mentoring women" and ... oh ok, never mind.

They don't understand what privileges they have. If it's one thing they get "right" it's that those with privileges rarely recognize they have them. Only they think it's men who don't recognize them.

Here's an example. Cammie Dunaway. Some may know her from E3s of old [Nintendo]. 12:35 to skip through the blathering nonsense to get to her talking about her own male mentors. Though there's quite a few "gems" if you want to get your blood boiling.

Anyway, mentors. The most telling quote...

"Once women get into these leadership roles, it's really important that they get good feedback and good coaching."

I just can't fathom having such a luxury. To be given a leadership role in a company and have somebody babysit you doing it. You are clearly unfit for a leadership position if you need COACHING on how to lead. How can you not see this? How can you utter these words and not realize how ridiculous it is? Male or female, it's absurd.

Meanwhile this entire talk is about how hard women have it, and how she "needs her son to know" how hard women have it so that he'll be a tool for women to use for their own gain.

And all she could come up with for her "struggle" was being asked to take notes or get coffee. BUT YOU WERE COACHED IN A LEADERSHIP ROLE. And she was promoted to another position when she was "not an obvious choice", since her credentials didn't fit the job she got. And she was literally given a quota job, she claims they didn't sacrifice qualifications to do so... but given her lack of awareness, I find that hard to believe.

And yet, women have it hard. Oh, she also mentioned that of the 200 women that graduated with her, only 75% still work full time. Compared to 95% of men. [no number given for men who graduated, though I assume it was higher] And she makes the outlandish claim that it's not because of lack of ambition. But because they found it "too difficult" to juggle family and a full time career. WHICH MEANS THEY AREN'T AMBITIOUS. Ugh...

I digress.

And she makes the outlandish claim that it's not because of lack of ambition. But because they found it "too difficult" to juggle family and a full time career.

Had a debate with my girlfriend about this yesterday. She claimed that men don't "have to take a year off to pop babies"

Eventually she agreed that men choose to give up on a number of things like spending time with the kids, attending recitals, etc. to advance their careers.

I thought we had to claw our way to the top over a pile of dead lobsters.

See, this is why women don't often get to the top of the pile -- they stop to eat the lobsters.

This reminds me of the discussion we had here a while ago about the counter-predictive nature of feminism. The things they predict will be good for women turn out to be bad for them.

It reminds me of the third Chinese curse: May you get what you ask for. You want us to leave you alone? YOU GOT IT.

I was thinking of a monkeys paw, but that works too.

[–]The__Tren__Train 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

yep...doesn't seem like the whole sexual liberation thing turned out too well for them..

at least once they hit their 30's

[–]jb_trp 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

And only once they realize things are bad for women do they actually want to change them. Never any empathy for when things are bad for men.

[–][deleted] 10 points11 points12 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

"Far from being a solution, this attitude hurts women"

It isn't to women's liking so it isn't a solution! Rubbish. Fact is, it IS a solution. Sure, it hurts women, but that does not mean it is not a solution -- it's just a solution women don't like. And who was it that put in place the "Listen and believe" standard? That's right, it was women. They wanted the power to persecute any man, no matter how innocent, they got it and now they are whining. Sucked in, girls. Personally, i think the workplace should probably become segregated. Women stay safe from predators, men stay safe from false accusations. There are no negatives here.

[–][deleted] 10 points11 points12 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

What male in a high profile job has ever been "mentored"? You get ahead by working harder, longer, playing office politics, and fucking over the competition. Unless, of course, you are a woman..then you just blow the CEO, get "mentoring" and claim "METOO" when things dont work out the way you wanted.

[–]saltshaker42 24 points25 points26 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

So my takeaway from this is women get to shout whatever they want, and ruin men's careers on faulty bases of sexual assault, and then avoid all negative effects by creating a new hashtag with the premise 'it's for the women's!'

Leaving society is looking better and better.

She wouldn't be noteworthy but for who her brother is.

Expect more micromanaging rules. I would not expect the moral panic to subside anytime soon.

[–]ifelsedowhile 14 points15 points16 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

We need less mentoring and more peopletoring.

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points5 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It should only take one accusation against a guy using MentorHer for the hastag to die. So, any day now.

[–]ThrowawayGhostGuy1 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

As they should be.

[–]hatefulreason 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

no strong independent woman should want to be mentored by a man anyways. if they fail guess who's gonna be to blame

[–]marcooni1 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I´m quite sure, that these men who mentor womyns have insurances, like third party always present, so he wont be sued for metoo.

"Men"toring is SEXIST. Call it Mansplaining

[–]svenskbitch 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

We knew this was happening, but the scale is definitely surprising.

Predictably, the feminist reaction is to mostly ignore this - or dismiss it as male whining and misogyny-driven overreactions.

And I agree. The men who do this are vastly exaggerating the risks that face them. But the point is not to assign blame; the point is to understand these consequences.

We see these overreactions all the time. If we would be as concerned about daily health risks as we are about terrorism (counting the overall cost of all our worries, security, airport queue frustration and dividing that over the death toll values life at billions of dollars), we would hardly leave our homes, let alone drive a car or eat a hamburger. The fact is: we are worried about terrorism, and good public policy should take this into account while making sure that we do not misallocate valuable resources.

This includes ensuring better ways of dealing with these allegations. Of finding middle was between ignoring a problem and exposing it publicly or prosecuting putative offenders of actions that run from serious to ostensibly normal dating behaviour. When a woman who worked for me was aggressively propositioned by a Middle East high-ranking delegate, she refused to escalate the issue - but I was able to speak to him diplomatically and ensure that she was not put in a situation where she had to be alone with him. Worked for all parties.

It is almost like falsely accuse every man of rape has negative reactions.
