Every few months I do a yearly Instagram purge and unfollow people who no longer serve any purpose in my life and I stumbled upon an influencer I used to follow: Nazanin Kavari.
Nazanin was a beauty/fashion influencer in her teens and was doing so well for herself. This girl was 16-17, graduating with high honors and envisioning going to college when I started following her. She was definitely making a lot and getting flown out across the country for brand promotions. All of a sudden, after high school, she moves out of her well-off family’s home where she had a lot of space and gets an apartment nearby “for no reason”. Then it’s revealed she has a boyfriend. This guy literally met her when she was 17 and he was 20. Her whole life goes downhill from this point. He quits his job, follows her to LA, her sister has to end up leaving their shared apartment so she can cohabit with this man at 18. He leeches off of her. She gets cosmetic procedure after procedure to live up to his ideal (he literally follows pornstars on his IG). Suddenly one day, with no proposal or ring, they get married in a courthouse and a few months later she announces she’s unexpectedly pregnant (not a shotgun wedding, she got pregnant after). This 20 year old who had a whole life ahead of her is now pregnant with this guy who has done nothing for her’s child. She buys him a Tesla, she buys a million dollar house that he gets a man cave in but she doesn’t have a office. She works throughout her pregnancy and he does nothing (she claims he takes her photos but is that really work?). She gives birth and her mom and sister and family continuously have to come from another state to look after her kid so she can work because her husband does nothing. She’s now 22 and she has no friends, uses her son and her lingerie promotions to have “Instagram content” so she can pay for their lives while her husband does NOTHING, smokes weed, and occasionally vlogs with them. Once he called all of the criticism about him doing nothing “racist”. And the sad thing is, so many of her female followers say they’re “goals”, that they can’t wait to have a man like hers...
This isn’t a one case scenario. So many influencers have platforms where they promote struggle love and their husbands doing absolutely nothing while claiming to be their manager or some weird shit like that and live free without any work. They promote this idea that women have to do it all while men are arm candy.
I’m so glad I don’t look up to these people yet I can’t help but feel sorry for all of the young girls that look up to these trash influencers and family channels that exploit their lives for views to the point where they ruin them. Social media and these influencers are heavily responsible for promoting “struggle love” and pickmeisha culture.
