Depending on where you live if you go to the police station and let them know what is going on (in otherwords your concerned/its becoming harassment etc) and you don't want it to get to the point where it's violent/requires a restraining order, they may go have a very open discussion with him about what happens if he doesn't cut it out. Better to prevent it getting worse if you can

What do you mean by unstable? If he's dangerous please talk to a domestic abuse hotline or chatline. Verbal and emotional abuse counts because those tend to escalate at a break up.
