this is how I demolish that argument:

"I'm not so sure about that

Historically, it has been men who have championed marriage. In most societies throughout most of history, women have little to no volition in the decision of marriage. This decision was often made before she hit puberty - a literal child - precisely so that she would not have the experience or knowledge needed to question the circumstances and young enough to ensure dependency-based bonding.

Now, as far as biology goes, there are two major contradictions to the "women want monogamy, men want to procreate as much as possible" narrative.

For one, your penis can only be in one female at a time, followed by a refractory period. the female body, on the other hand, is biologically equipped to handle three+ penises at any given moment, with no refractory period.

This is for good reason. After all, sex does not always mean pregnancy – even when that's the goal. from a strictly biological perspective, it is her egg that needs to be timed properly, meaning she will more than likely needs to have sex repeatedly to become pregnant. Strategically, biology would suggest that it is in fact the female who should have sex as much as possible – with as many men as possible.

of course, she could have sex repeatedly with the same man until we have an embryo.

But if the male's swimmers aren't up to snuff, she might be wasting time – and as every woman, knows, there's only so much time.

That's right: your biological clock, best known for gaslighting you into thinking it's time to "settle down and get married," would actually dictate that it is in fact time to have sex with as many men as possible, in as short of a time as possible. Having sex with 5 men a day for a 60-day period all but guarantees procreational success. The genetic variety of multiple partners ensures the strongest swimmers hit the jackpot. We've been culturally indoctrinated into thinking the biological clock is our impetus for monogamy. In fact, it's our signal to make rounds.

We see this reality distortion in many of the societal constructs designed to motivate women to "settle down," i.e., let one male have freethrow at procreation. The main mechanism for this is cultural shame.

For example, China's infamous one-child policy notoriously led to gender-selective abortions, with preference for males. This led to a gender imbalance in modern day China's youth, the first cohort of which is of marriage age now. In this group, there are approximately 15-20% more males than there are females

Despite having a significant numerical advantage, a growing cultural phenomenon shames Chinese women in their twenties for not getting married. Unmarried women over the age of 25 are derogatorily referred to as "Leftover women," despite the fact that mathematically, there are objectively no Leftover women. only leftover men. Yet, both the biological clock and Chinese woman's bountiful reproductive prospects are leveraged as "support" that women should want monogamy.

So back to as many mates as often as possible. Indeed, in many early human civilizations, that was par for the course. The resulting children were the children of all the men the women had sex with, because no one could be sure of paternity and all wanted more opportunities for biological success. they provided resources in exchange for sexual opportunity - but not guarantee - of continuing their own genetic line.

In fact, you know how your penis has a mushroom tip? Biologists believe that this shape evolved to scoop out the seamen of other males, giving their own sperm a better chance of hitting the jackpot.

But if 9 months later, a baby was born, a man couldn't be certain it was his – and he didn't like that. Enter: Marriage. Instead of the child maybe being yours, marriage offered a way for men to know definitively that they had 'succeeded.'

Monogamy is, in fact, giving the MALE the best possible chance of reproductive success. It ensures consistent access, repeat attempts, accommodates the refractory period, and eliminates competition with other males' sperm. Monogamy is a gift a woman offers a man – a no-doubts chance to fulfill his life's purpose/goal of posterity – don't get it twisted.

So no, I don't think there is a biological basis that suggests women have vested interest in monogamy and marriage while men just wanna "play the field" because "biology." It's actually a disservice to the species' evolutionary prowess. Sadly, science is legit one of the most sexist fields.

May the best swimmer win.
