Woman in Peru makes TikTok video registering boyfriend for military service for cheating, with copycat videos ensuing. She later claims it's a joke, but that doesn't change that she received many messages of support and has helped to normalize this type of disproportionate retribution for cheating.

Feminists are lying when they claim to believe motherhood is oppressive. If they really believed that, they wouldn't oppose equal custody bills every time they come up for a vote.

What's the difference between TERFs and mainstream feminists? TERFs dare to treat transwomen how (too many) mainstream feminists treat men.

We all know that about 2/3 of divorces are initiated by women, so why is the rich man who callously leaves his aging wife for a younger woman still the popular image of divorce among the general public?

Women and girls need to be taught to be nice to their male partners, just like men and boys are taught to be with their female ones. The failure to do this is really tearing the social fabric and killing romance.

This is from a little over two years ago, but it highlights the issue of different retirement ages for men and women in many countries (and every country with gender-differentiated retirement ages affords women the lower age).

For context for this particular story, in Argentina, women can retire at 60, while men must wait until they're 65 (even though life expectancy at birth is 73 for males and 80 for females). However, Argentina also has a law that allows people to legally change their gender easily and without having to get gender-affirming surgery.

One man put two and two together and decided to legally change his sex to female just before turning 60, presumably to collect the retirement pension five years earlier.

I was moved by this story, with its protagonist slyly exploiting loopholes to avoid an extra half decade of soul-crushing work, all while calling attention to a rarely acknowledged legal inequality against men that exists in a non-trivial number of countries.

Until I heard about this interesting story last year, I had no idea that different retirement ages for men and women existed in so many countries. The unfairness of this situation for men is compounded by the fact that women outlive men in literally every country in the world (this interesting link has valuable data and charts about the life expectancy gender gap).

It's weird that his relative told on him because he thought him changing legal gender was abuse of the law to change easily, but not unfair that the retirement ages were different in law.

[–]Grow_peace_in_Bedlam8 points 5 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Definitely. Apparently, according to the relative, Sergio/a finding a sneaky but legal way to circumvent an unjust law is the problem rather than the existence of the unjust law in the first place. Although certain statements about what Sergio/a is like don't paint him/her as the most sympathetic character, I think what s/he did to retire quicker was a masterful (and hilarious) act of civil disobedience worthy of the highest praise.

I think my country has different retirement age for each gender...

[–]Grow_peace_in_Bedlam1 point 5 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

If you don't mind my asking, which country is it?

[–]Banake1 point 5 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Brazil.

[–]Grow_peace_in_Bedlam2 points 5 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Then yes, according to this, which states that men can retire at 65, while women can retire at 62.

I think we have a law that put the punishment for killing a woman as higher than for killing a man, but I don't know the details. :-/ https://www.unwomen.org/en/news/stories/2015/3/in-brazil-new-law-on-femicide-to-offer-greater-protection

The fact that this guy changes his gender to female is absolutely not the problem. The real problem is that women age retirement is around 60 and in males is 65. Why not just reducing both to 60, or rather increasing both to 65 so that makes a fair balance?? That would be the point.

[–]liz_lemon_lover8 points 5 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

As a woman, good on him. If women can retire earlier I see no reason why him changing his gender to take advantage of this early retirement is unethical.

Aye. I've always said men are objectified through labour just as women as objectified through sexuality.

A lot of the problems women face in regards to their sexuality don't really apply to men - or, rather, they're not as big a problem for men as they are for women.

This is used as a "See, women have it worse!!! Men don't face as much objectification" proof, but only for a very narrow definition of "objectification" (which has somehow become the only definition...)

But if you take the ways women are objectified and apply it to labour and utility, we find that men are absolutely objectified just as much.

Don't forget the savings you get on insurance for being a woman.

Are you talking only about car insurance, or other types of insurance too?

Marry. Change to a woman. Divorce. Take everything.
