“OnTheLine” services, given tens of millions of $$$ in donations and government funding to provide telephone and online counselling services for men (MensLine), as well as emergency counselling services for suicide prevention and emergency suicide callback services, noted in their 2019 annual report that suicide continues to be a major social health issue facing Australia, with an average of 8.57 deaths per day.

However, the Director and CEO of OnTheLine (both women), do not once acknowledge in their 39 page report that 75% of suicides in Australia are males. Instead, their glossy, self congratulatory annual report proudly states that 64% of clients using their suicide counselling services are women, and 74% of their suicide callback services are provided to women.

Even a casual observer might be tempted to ask “where are all the men?” After all, aren’t 75% of suicides are men? That question doesn’t rate a single mention, because this misandrist service couldn’t give a damn. It’s only men so who cares? A quick read of those pages of the report describing suicide services reveals 4 full page picture of women, short captions of their experience using the services, and NO MEN. Awesome job.

This is the same service provider running government funded counselling services to men via MensLine. For those of you unfamiliar, MensLine is advertised as a man friendly counselling sevice to help men with relationships, relationship breakdown and family separation. The majority of services offered by MensLine deal with men acting violently towards women seeking help to stop their misogynist behaviours and acknowledge their male privilege.

Is it any wonder the crisis in male suicide in Australia continues unabated, when millions of $$$ of government funded initiatives are being primarily redirected to services for women, while men keep on doing it alone. No auditing, no critical public scrutiny, gender neutral in the glossy brochures, but deadly misandrist in outcomes.
