Men Go Their Own Way. It happens a lot lately. For the most part they avoid becoming involved with what they see as an unhealthy and or inhospitable culture, and they go their own way.

It's a phenomenon, not a movement. MGTOW are individualists, not collectivists. But it gets some press, people notice. There is way more talk about MGTOW than there is among MGTOW.

The MGTOW subreddit is best thought of as a fanbase, these are people who enjoy memes and content about MGTOW, and as often happens in these fanbase bubbles, they end up driving the content so that it comes to represent what they will click on much moreso than it represents the actual purported subject matter.

This is why I'm so aggressive towards the fake moderates that keep trying to tell us to shut up about certain issues like circumcision and female on male abuse. When you have a faction that moves into your group and starts dictating what you can and can't talk about even as a 'suggestion' they are not your friends and they are not doing it as a suggestion they are telling you.

I'm not surprised if the MTGOW lot are being infiltrated, I think groups like MTGOW and Incel are ripe for takeover because they have a very top down approach in the community which of course means if there's individuals at the top they can be targeted. Here though I've been genuinely impressed with the majority of the mods and how they generally tend to have a hands off approach unless it's something serious.

I use to be subbed to the MGTOW subreddit from under 5,000 subs up until around the 90,000 sub mark and than noticed their subreddit do a nose dive in quality content. It use to be mostly pictures of hard working men going their own way enjoying life for themselves etc, and a very occasional post/story here or there about someone breaking off a relationship or showing text messages But as the sub started to grow I saw more and more degrading, low quality, low effort, toxic, depressing, hateful, and borderline Incel content. Eventually around the 100,000 sub mark I couldn't take looking at their subreddit anymore without being put In a down mood.

Examples of before:

Picture of a guy next to their motorcycle/jeep/truck with beautiful mountain scenery in the background who looked like they were enjoying themselves,

Picture of a dude who went hiking and decided to post,

The occasional success story of breaking off a relationship going to the gym getting ripped and getting their dream job or,

Similar wholesome posts etc.

Examples after the decline in quality:

Every other posts was of a horrible toxic feminist who was posting on Twitter or some other form of social media saying something disgusting or degrading about men some of which were posted from fake accounts,

Or posts about a something posted on another subreddit some of which were genuine posts while others I looked up and found to be fake posts made by that member of the mgtow community for causing drama and/or gaining Clicks/Reddit Karma/Comments,

Occassionally there were storys about a break up or inequality here or there,

And on rare occasions I'd see a wholesome post about a mgtow member. (At the end I'd only find these types of good/positive posts after going into the subreddit and sifting through the crappy low quality posts)

To be honest, the level of a lot of comments on there were not much above what I'd expect teenagers to write on porn sites, to be honest. I mean, the state of relations between men and women has never been shitter, thanks to the media magnifying stupid over a huge area... but the outright nastiness and stretched "we found the secret to a happy life... it's in buying things!" logic of the place got annoying.

Plus the humble bragging was pretty impressive in there. A hell of a lot of rich and sexy dudes just kicking back impressing dudes on Reddit in there free time.

I got band straight away from that sub for having tangential opinions, not opposite opinions, just different. I think it's become something of an echo chamber these days.

FYI the same thing happens on this subreddit from time to time. 2016 saw a lot of brigaders from /r/the_donald and other subreddits trying to hijack this sub. With the election coming up I expect we'll see the same again. People who see some overlap with us (eg, being anti-feminist) see that as an easy opening and try to use that as a way to hi-jack our space for their own agenda.

I'm not entirely sympathetic to MGTOW. I've been on 3 MGTOW servers on Discord so I'm not totally ignorant. But it seems to me they are always wanting to work on "improving themselves" instead of confronting the cause of their problems, which is how contemporary westerm society is organized. I think MRA is much more important, but the MGTOW movement is necessary to some extent too, because as we know sex and relationships are unreasonably dangerous and insecure or unrewarding for men now and so MGTOW is not even really optional for many men in our current situation, unfortunately.
