"It seems to me that if you want to socially engineer a loving and responsible masculinity, men themselves must become thoroughly optional—meaning their participation in romantic partnership and or parenting would not be necessary to the financial security of either a woman or a family."

you mean like how many people in prison, how many teenage pregnancies, are products of single moms who made the father optional

how is that working out for you ??

[–]Packetnoodles 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Often it wasn’t the woman that made the father optional but the father that left because he didn’t want the responsibility of kids.

[–]rahsoft 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

no its wasn't

that's the lie so many people bought into

and the court records back that up

very few walked away from responsibility, they were removed.

If a woman wants to work and financially support themselves, that's something I can get behind.

If we want to socially engineer a loving and responsible masculinity, we need to tell feminist to shut the fuck up and start looking at their own toxicity, entitlement as well as taking responsibility for causing the problem, before they make accusations such as "responsible masculinity".

Socialism is not the answer,. it is never the answer, but especially in this case. Father's rights are, because it is not economics keeping fathers away from their children. that's just holding up a big, smelly, red fish. It is feminist influence in, and the despicable practices of the family courts, and the misguided assumption that fatherhood is not necessary to the well being of children.

Feminist create a problem, then blame "masculinity" and then decide that the very people that create the problem should have he right to solve it

Yeah, all set, but thanks for playing.

This became the explicit basis of UK Family Law after it was rewritten. It now contains the statement: "It can no longer be assumed that a man is an asset to the family". The word "father" was removed from Law.

The instigators of these changes were feminist politicians, principally Harriet Harman QC MP, who continues to seek alterations to UK law to align it with feminist jurisprudence e.g. the valid criminalisation of men following retrospective withdrawal by women of her consent to sex, and removal of laws currently allowing the production of evidence during trial by male defendents proving his innocence or that the woman's allegation is false.

I need to correct this, which I wrote from memory and, on checking, have misremembered.

Harman contributed to the rewriting of The Children Act that took place in 1989. The Act was altered in favour of women as the presumptive parent following divorce, and the word "father" was removed from the related "Children and Families Bill".

The ideology that informed this change was recorded in her entry the following year (1990) in "The Family Way" published by feminist advocacy group "Institute For Public Policy Research", quote:

‘It cannot be assumed that men are bound to be an asset to family life or that the presence of fathers in families is necessarily a means to social cohesion.’

Her claim that it cannot be assumed that men are an asset to family life contrasts with her claims elsewhere that it must be assumed that women tell the truth.

For more details, see Lloyd, Peter. "Stand By Your Manhood: An Essential Guide For Modern Men" Ch 6 "In the name of the father".

For details on feminist MPs efforts to alter UK law in favour of deepening legal and social privileges for women, see my essay "Feminism and False Rape Allegations" https://medium.com/feminist-watch/feminism-and-false-rape-allegations-7b3b723f1a1

I apologise again for the original inaccuracy.

Nice one, thank you!!

Wow, I didn't know about any of this stuff, though I seem to recall Harriet Harman making some disparaging comments about fathers' role in the family. I was trying to find something about her statements online the other day, but I couldn't seem to find anything. Do you have any links relating to any of your comment that I could read?

Hello - see my correction to my post, which contains the references you need.

And vice versa, but we all know that's not going to happen, is it? A society where women are optional is a society where women actually have to take responsibility for their lives, and there's FAR too many of them that opt to let some dude subsidize or even pay their way.

And vice versa, of course, but that will never happen. A society where women are optional to male happiness and contentment is a VERY different world than they are envisioning.

And vice versa, of course, but that's not going to happen any time soon. They don't want freedom and flexibility for everyone, just women.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

And vice versa, of course, but something tells me that they don't want men to have the freedom and flexibility to choose or not choose their partners, because that would be devastating for a significant proportion of adult women.

It's amazing how I time after time conclude that I should stop listening to women. It's a complete waste of time.

You know how both traditional society as well as supposedly modern liberal society constantly keeps telling men they should listen more to women?

Now, why might that be? Obviously because men don't listen to women. But probably all these men have decided it's a waste of time to listen to women.

Just saying.
