Well, I'll start by saying I didn't sleep with my husband for eight months, so there's absolutely a way to bring value that has nothing to do with sex.

I dressed in a feminine style with long hair, subtle makeup, lots of dresses.

I kept a calm demeanor when I was upset. I was direct, not passive aggressive. I kept the drama in check.

I treated him in the ways I could afford. I made him dinner and cookies on the regular. I always brought dishes to family events and as gifts for his parents. I still do.

I never asked for husband privileges and showed gratitude when he offered them, such as the time he drove an hour to fix my washing machine. I never asked for money or expected him to pay for dates, though he literally always did. I actually called him upset over money once and had no idea he thought I was going to ask for money until after we were married. It literally had never occurred to me. I was just upset that several expenses had piled on at once and I still wasn't full time at my job.

I showed interest in the things that were important to him, namely rodeo and the cattle industry, as his family owns a rodeo company and a cattle ranch. It's still not really my thing and I've never pretended it is. I am respectful of it, though, and try to get into it when we attend rodeos or travel to ceremonies. I dress to go out on the land when we visit his parents. I embrace the cowboy hat in family photos. I don't try to imitate the Southern rodeo wives, but I still dress up appropriately for events.

I get along with his friends and family as best I can. When there's conflict, which isn't unheard of in family businesses, I mind my own and keep my mouth shut.

Keeping things peaceful, doing things for him without him having to ask, sex without him having to ask, caring about things he's interested in as someone said, knowing when to mind your own biz, but still being there in case you're needed, loyalty, being feminine, etc. Loyalty is very important. Standing by him when things are good and bad especially financially.

It's called courting and it's a lost art. Make him meals like you said. Buy him tickets to his favorite band/team. Take and interest in him by reading his favorite book!
