also, as an aside, a lot of people do this wrong. the woman isn't supposed to just loop her arm through yours, she is supposed to hold on to the inside of your elbow. if you're walking with a girl who is a little tipsy on her heels and she tries to just do the interlocked arm loops thing, take her hand and move it so she is holding the inside of your elbow, it's much steadier that way. also she gets to feel your massive bicep.

I've had a bunch of first dates go from venue 1 to venue 2. Rarely would I want to hold arms cuz I walk fast and I have to slow down or calibrate for heels and shit.

The few times I would actually hold arms I just held my elbow out, fully expecting the arm to be held. Said nothing, girl would wrap her arm around through the gap.

I'm betting that if you did that instead of rape her arm gap then she would have followed your lead (as she followed you to venue 2).

Outside chance she was embarrassed to be seen with you holding arms/hands...

Oh and definitely don't persist...the responses could have only gotten worse. Plus who cares about holding arms? You weren't attending the Vienna Peace Conference of 1815 were you? You could have gotten closer at venue 2 and when she didn't move away with plausibly accidental touches those would be your green flags to hold hands/arms/kiss later on.
