My husband's daughter finally learned the truth a few years ago. It's been wonderful having contact again. I never say a word about her mother but seeing her anger at her mother is a balm to my soul. Her dad tried so hard. Her mother got away with it for so long, but finally, consequences! because now my step daughter is very bitter at how she was willfully robbed of a loving father and all the life benefits that accrue with that. Best of luck with the project, it's sorely needed.

My father had a similar experience with his first daughter from his first marriage, her mother started to actively lie about him and she essentially never wanted to him or her half-siblings. What is interesting is that while he was 60 and she was well into her late 30's we received a court letter asking him to pay tens of thousands of Euro's in "missing child support" for her. At this point she (the daughter) was married, already had 2 children of her own, and this was just after our grand-mother's euthanasia, so simply being around our family made them realise that she wanted to sue for child support despite her being re-married fairly quickly after the divorce.

Apparently my father hadn't even seen her in over 20 years at the time and when my grand-mother invited my half-sister she specifically arranged for it that my father, my full-sister, and I were not allowed to be there while she, her mother, and her kids were visiting.

According to my father his ex-wife just told his first daughter a lot of lies about him to hate him. But growing up I've always seen many pictures of her and my father always kept childhood pictures of my half-sister in his wallet. Meanwhile I don't even think that she knows what I look like. If I'd ever had the displeasure of meeting her I'd probably ignore her, but it's weird to see how children manipulated by parental alienation are its victims as her hostility towards us always made her look like the perpetrator in our eyes, especially since she basically chose to never want to hear our side of the story. Unfortunately, this isn't rare.

When I was 17 I re-united a friend of mine with his long lost father and he explicitly told me that his mother may never find out. Often when we had appointments together I essentially picked him up and walked him to his father's house where they spent the days together, purely because his mother disallowed it. Even as a grown man in his 20's he kept it a secret (though I haven't talked to either in years now).

Some people are lucky to have had access to their fathers after their parents divorced (including myself and my best-friend), others essentially are banned by their mothers from seeing them.
