I'd argue that's similar to a sap and illegal in most places. You are not allowed to have a weapon at school. Lucky you weren't expelled tbh.

Here is my plan:

Go find another sock. Preferably one without a match.
Go get another lock.
Put lock into sock and secure with a zip tie or knot.
Problem solved.

Schools have pretty broad latitude in matters like this; you could try to go through legal avenues, but the cops are unlikely to even write a report, and your local judge is going to throw it out on spec, you would have to find someone to take it on appeal...

Over a lock? Not going to happen.
