Not sure if I should hope someone here can chime in because he's "been there and done that," since I wouldn't wish the last 8 years of my life on a broke dick dog, but if anyone has any helpful advice, I certainly would appreciate it.

I'm about to file for divorce on grounds of Cruel and Inhumane Treatment. I'm not going to piss and whine and subject you to specifics; those of you who have experienced life with a fucking narcissist don't need any details, and those of you who haven't should count your blessings and learn to spot these self-centered harridans before you get stuck with one yourself.

Have any of you ever dealt with this sort of situation? If so, how did you document the abuse? I've been thinking about going to a therapist. Does some kind of diagnosis from a shrink help? Audio recordings? Video? Written journals? I need some way to prove that she is unbearable to live with, but my definition of "unbearable" might be different than that of the judge.

Since she is a narcissist, she most likely won't sign a no-fault petition, and if I just up and leave, she WILL come after me for abandonment and financially ruin me. I've already decided I don't want the house. We don't have any kids, and I can literally fit any material possessions of sentimental value in the cab of my truck, so she would really and truly get EVERYTHING without a judge being involved. I can easily replace everything I would lose within a matter of a couple of years. But this woman really is the kind of person who would rather completely destroy me for having the audacity to leave her. I need to initiate this proceeding and get clear without losing too much. I can't prove she has NPD, because she won't even acknowledge she has a problem, much less seek treatment. So I need to prove the harm she has done. The judge might not see the beast itself, but maybe its tracks would be proof enough.

Any thoughts?
