No,you read everything wrong. You must take the lead and approach, always. Most girls will never approach a guy, however, girls put themselves in a position for you to approach her if they are interested (as she did by standing next to you) however this is only for a few seconds (hers was 15-20)and you didn't make a move so she left. She gave you the opportunity to initiate with her and you blew it. She went out of her way to talk you but expected YOU to lead the interaction and approach.

Remember, don't listen to a girls words but watch her actions.

You should never take what a woman says to heart. Especially when she's saying it to someone else. They will always play themselves up and act too cool for school. Men do this as well.

People in general do this to boost their social perception up.

You took it personally and shut down, losing out on an opportunity. And to be honest, what she said wasn't even that bad.

All you did was talk to her once. What do you expect her to say?

She knows that your friend is going to tell you what she said. She doesn't want to be perceived as getting rejected, so you get the "I won't go out of my way" crap.

BUT THEN, she did go out of her way to dance right next to you. That, in girl actionspeak="Please make a move."

Your move was to ignore her. Now, she does feel rejected and is grateful she took the precaution of telling everyone she wasn't really that into you.

No worries. It took me far longer than it should have to read a girls actions more than words when I was younger. Do better next time.
