I(18) am a fairly confident guy, and I very rarely get insecure about things. I am probably the most social person in my university, so much so, half the students probably do know me, and a lot of them have heard my name, just because of my social friendly nature.

Almost a month ago, I was in the library with a classmate of mine, and we were talking and she said something along the lines of, "you're really not like the things I've heard about you" and I was intrigued and i asked what has she heard about me and from whom, and she didn't say anything about it, just said something like "I had a negative opinion of you and you're clearly nothing like that". Well, it's ok I guess, who cares what someone said behind my back if they can't say it infront of me.

Fast forward, I'm hanging out with this girl after dinner, sitting just outside our hostel, around the basketball court, whom I met yesterday, we are talking, having fun, she's sharing stuff about herself and all that and on that topic, she says "I've heard a lot of back bitching about you in the girls hostel" and this just made me a little upset today. I haven't wronged anyone, yet. Why am I being talked about in a negative sense? Or is it just a result of being popular? Are there anyways to deal with it? Or is it out of my control?

I'm from India BTW. Thanks for reading, any inputs will be appreciated.
