A guide to breakup by me, for me. I feel like if something like this would've been there when I was going through a tough breakup period, I would've handled it far better. So, in a way I'm just helping myself with this post. I'd also like to request the mods to add navigating through breakup/rejection section in the sub's wiki.

Here goes nothing:

Part 1 - Responding instead of Reacting

Do not react. Do not beg. Do not plead. Instead, take your time, think stuff through. Whatever happened that lead to this situation. If someone initiates a breakup, they've probably thought through with the consequences and reasonings, I see no reason to being with them against their wishes. Also, sometimes it's not you, it actually is them. Do not take this rough patch of a time to think you're worthless and take hit on your self esteem.

The best way to respond imo is to say "it's alright, it was good knowing you" and cut them off. If you're a bit more expressive you can go on and be a lil vulnerable and say "yes I'm hurt a little, but it's ok", and cut them off no matter what they say. They might offer friendship but just know, you're not friends, you're exes. And you will never be friends (maybe after 5-6 years, but definitely not rn).

You need to start your detachment process and do the healing and trauma work.

Part 2 - Reconstruction of your reality

The past, however good or bad, is Gone, it exists only in your mind, and it will exist as long as YOU let it be. Whatever you did(or didn't do) for them is gone. They will not be grateful for those times. Forgive them for whatever they did and let go. If you're waiting for a closure of apology, it's not coming. If you're trying to go for revenge, Don't. It's not worth it, best revenge would be letting them go and living a happy life.

This your time to be selfish and think about yourself. Be around friends, get a new haircut, get a new fashion sense, go out and meet new people, do the things you always wanted but couldn't because you were with them. Relationship is a 2 way street and if the person has decided to leave midway, there's no reason Asking them to come back. Or being with them again for that matter, as what if they leave midway again?

Whatever happened is gone and you need to reconstruct your self. This means working harder at your work and/or gym or picking up a new hobby or talking to more people (and girls) in a new Charming way. Anything and everything that you would've thought it was too extreme for you, it's time to do that(be mindful of it ofcourse).

Part 3 - Acceptance

Accept the relationship is dead, and know even if they come back, it would be zombie of the previous relationship. Use your emotions as a compass, what are you feeling, why are you feeling what you're feeling, what boundaries have been crossed, what do you wanna do about it.

Start your detachment process, do the healing and inner work. Cut the person off. And most importantly, move on. It's better for both of you, just move on. You think they are special but believe me, they are not. It's your mind projecting the ideal version of them. The moment you'd get back with them you will be disappointed that what you thought isn't the reality.

Part 4 - The Mindset

Breakups are usually seen as a bad thing, and I believe they certainly are to some extent. But they are good too... In a way, you learned a lot about yourself, about other people, about new things with them. Stop labeling things good or bad, because you do not know 100% If it really is a bad thing. Embrace the moment, and respect yourself enough to not contact them again out of desperation
