I've got 5 years on you, but have dated several older women in their 40s. I’ll divide them into two categories.

First, divorcees and/or single moms make great partners while you need to focus on yourself, career, physical health, or just need to relax for a while. Really, this is the case regardless of their age. The romantic idea of marriage or forever-love has crashed into earth like a meteor, and those prehistoric dinosaur thoughts have gone extinct. They expect less of you, they aren’t as idealistic about relationships as less experienced women, and they’re happy to do nice things for you without grand expectations of reciprocity. Basically it allows you to be a little more selfish (note I didn’t say rude). You're already pressured by the world, your job, your existence, they tend to not complicate that too much. It's great! On the flip side, they won't just put up with your shit. Remember, their fairy tale is already destroyed, they don’t want to waste time on being unhappy anymore. You still gotta be a good person, but those non-important things like unavoidable sudden change of plans, or leaving the tooth paste in a different place, cabinets open, or leaving the towel on the floor sometimes, those fights go away. Is it psychologically healthy to have sweet grandma levels of love that you can have wild experimental sex with? Strong maybe, and that requires introspection and regular re-evaluation, but you should be doing that anyway boss.

Second, dating 40+ year old women who have never been married and don't have children can be risky. While there's exceptions to every rule and everyone is a unique and beautiful person, some models are useful. This has been a red flag in my experience. Maybe they’ll be a lot of fun for the night, but with any extended time together, there's some instability that every partner before has noticed and then ran for the hills before they could be tied down. Also, if you notice she never has anything good to say about any of her exes, this is another red flag, but age doesn’t apply to this flag. Healthy people can see the good in others despite the weakness in themselves.

Anywho, back to what you actually asked about. I've always found them in bars or from work. For bars, maybe aim for a slightly higher price point than your peers. Her friend’s will likely be less cock-blocky if they’re married or also divorced. At work, be attractive but voicing your opinions to your superiors (assuming they’re worth hearing). Basically don’t be afraid of authority if you’re self-confident.

You won’t have to spend a bunch of money on dates. Learn how to cook something somewhat nice at home and share a bottle of wine while you cook. Show kindness to animals. Enjoy a movie that’s older than you (something like Casablanca (fuckin love that movie)). These simple signs of maturity and kindness go much further than shows of wealth or status.
