Generally, we don't advise asking out people you work with. Typically people that are confident go out and find people they don't work with. If it goes south, then you still have to work with her and that can be a very big problem.

If her department is in no way connected to yours and you won't have to worry about dealing with her if she becomes an ex-lover that doesn't like you, then ask her at the same way you would ask out anyone else. Get her laughing, then say you should get a drink sometime and ask for her contact info.

Best approach is to have a casual, fun, interesting event /activity that you are going to and invite her along. If she accepts, she's interested. If not, she is not. Proceed accordingly.

General consensus on asking out/getting involved with work mates is; don't shit where you eat.

You are not as confident as you think you are and you don't like yourself as much as you think you do. That's just an FYI. Not shitting on you, just something for you to be aware of and work on.

As for asking her out, the more directly the better. Just tell her: "Hey Becky, I really like you want to get to know you outside of work. Let's go out on a proper date. How about this Thursday at 8p? Cool, meet me at XYZ, etc"

Have a little chat about something not to boring. Maybe what you both got up too at the weekend or whatever, and then be like 'We should go out for a drink sometime'. If she's interested in you she'll go with it. If you're not her type, she'll give excuses etc.

You're either her type or you're not. You're job is just to find out.
