2- Is this a good mentality to adopt? What are your thoughts? It is coming from a woman and I know another woman who kinda thinks the same. I don't have guy friends or mentors to ask such a question. So I'm here.
My family has a saying: "connection, not attachment"
I'm 32. I feel -deeply, always, everyday, because connection is life.
Love, experience, emotion, feeling, be it romantic or platonic, family or friends- it's worth experiencing. I live to feel connected to the world. I could be dead tomorrow. I'd rather reach out and feel. I'd rather be hurt, regret choices, learn, laugh at myself, teach each other- than to shut it out and be only -.
I've just had enough pain in my life to know it's temporary. I know the joy of having a connection outweighs the pain of loss when it's broken. When things don't work out, I own that. Shit happens. People change. Life moves on. I still shared something. I loved someone, even a little. What joy. A small -or great- part of my life. All of these experiences make me who I am.
The short of it, is that I don't date casually. I just get in there and enjoy people.
If they move on to a better match? That hurts, sometimes. But pain is human. Who am I to know what they really need or want in their life at that time? Even if this means we part ways, I can be happy for them. For a short time, we were connected, we shared something special, and even though they may have moved on to sharing the most intimate parts of their life with someone other than me, I can be happy for them.
