A little over a month ago I met this girl at work, it was pretty obvious she found me attractive from the start. She would come initiate conversations and sit next to me. After a couple weeks of talking I pulled her aside and asked her out. She said yes and seemed really excited, she even waited for me at the end of the shift so she could give me her number.
Well the date was delayed like 3 times for various reasons. One time she had to go out of town and another time she left work early Bc of a family emergency. The third time she called me and invited me out but I declined because I was in the middle of an exam. We both promised each other we’d go out next week after she comes back from a short vacation. Although this whole time, we were flirting and talking at work and tension was building, so it was going good.
I hit her up a day before the actual date to confirm with her, and she replied a couple hours later saying that she’s been going through a hard break up for the past month, they were together for 2 years and it just ended. She said that she does like me though and we have a lot in common, she just needs a little time to get over it before she starts dating again. I just replied saying ok, let me know if you want to go out then.
I obviously don’t want to be a rebound and I will keep my options open, but how should I treat her at work now? I feel like she was honest with me about it because she views me as a long-term prospect and not just a rebound fling, which I appreciate if that is the case. I wouldn’t want to get into anything serious with her right now because of her emotional state, but I would be open to trying it out if she felt ready to. Any advice on how I should go about this? Should I ask her about the break up at all to understand more what happened? I’m going to see her at work today.
tl;dr girl likes me but is currently going through a breakup
