Here's a strategy that has been MAGIC for me: I have an awkward story about a first kiss that usually gets big laughs. I find a way to tell the story midway through the date. When she's laughing at me, I make some good eye contact and say "what about you? Do you like when a man asks for permission or do you prefer if the dude just goes for it?"

A). It gives her agency over the moment. B). It's respectful without killing the vibe B.2) if you use the eye contact right, it actually escalates the vibe beautifully. C). It gives you an idea of how the date is going. She's not going to tell you "I like when they just go for it!" if she's not into it or still deciding (though legitimately, women usually know). And if she likes being asked, it takes the guess work out for you.

Like, it has redefined my game.

You didn't steadily physically escalate. Kissing at the end of the date is Disney movie crap. If there was natural escalation and reciprocation, not just flirting because that doesn't break the physical barrier, going in for the kiss at the end is Luke putting all your eggs into a confirmation that isn't necessarily real. Physically escalate regularly and the kiss won't be such a big deal.
